the only thing that was a big complaint when they came out was heavy vibration. and heavy steering. I own a 600 fusion and heavy steering was a complaint with them. with few minor adj./different skis the steering is much better. i am happy with my 600.
Do check to make sure all recalls are up to date. sorry can't say much about 900
Have a buddy that bought one new, fellow snowtracker as well. While the sled had a lot to like, the vibration and heavy steering previously mentioned where innate characteristics with the 900 which lead to its destruction ( we will leave it at that ). Numerous attempts where made to have the manufacture assist with both conditions as the vibration was 100% intolerable, ( I rode the sled once and within 20 minutes could no longer feels my hands ) all attempts where rejected with a response of "no defect, just part of the design". With all of this and the sled being almost new, several attempts where made to trade the sled in, one to get out from under it as it was apparent he would become buried in it , and two to trade into a different Polaris model which could be ridden, the dealers laughed, literally. I also recall one dealer stating that Polaris had so heavily rebated the 900 to get ride of them that he would loose money by offering 50% of what it was purchased for ! This all leads back to the earlier statement of the sleds " destruction ", enough said. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Bob -quit picking on the polaris sleds. LOL - for real i agree with all you state. nobody wants it.
i run an 05 166 and on occasion 06 166 polaris...as far as the stearing goes the simple fix was putting the slp after market spindles on which aloud more canter to the ski for great turning and as far as the vibration well lock all the ponies into a little box and sure youll get a bit ..i dont notice the vibration unless im sitting at idle on a trail..off trail nothing but the vibration of usually a tree i find that grew up in my way...if your an agressive to semi agressive rider and dont stay on the trail the whole time youll love it....only thing ive had to do to mine since they came out is a stator...found out in the way back country it was going out, knew something was wrong with the power loss at the time but sine i was rideing with the dealers also was easy to figure out the problem and fix it. GOOD LUCK with your choice.. how much u able to pick the sled up for any how?
[QUOTE=TWITCHED;6831]..i dont notice the vibration unless im sitting at idle on a trail..off trail nothing but the vibration of usually a tree i find that grew up in my way...if your an agressive to semi agressive rider and dont stay on the trail the whole time youll love it....
I doubt I'll notice the vibration that much since 50% of my riding is humping over moguls...
I had heard that the 05 had numerous problems with vibrations and breaking belts etc..but that in 06 those issues had been corrected and the 06 was much better than the 05.
At least that is what I heard...
The sled I am looking at has less than a 1000 mi.... wasn't ridden this past season...dealer installed pics...and the asking price is $4K OBO...
Many Thx for the feedback.....

Off topic....I see the Steelers drafted....Rashard Mendenhall out of Illinois, Dennis Dixon out of Oregon and Mike Humpal from Iowa .....this past weekend.
Pls.. Feel Free to give your 2 cents worth......
It was disappointing that Illinois didn't have a better showing in the Rose Bowl...and Oregon didn't make it to the Rose Bowl..
I had an 06 900 Switchback. My only complaints were the vibration (mainly at low speeds on hard-pack - yup, it put my hands & feet to sleep too) and the running boards got so hot, it literally melted my boots. Other than that, the sled rode and handled great.
I had been riding Cats for about 7 years when I bought the Switchback. I had wanted a Crossfire, but they didn't offer reverse back then. After selling the Switchback, I switched back to Cat - a 2007 F8 which I really loved. But, unfortunately the bank account forced me to sell it late this past winter. Now my dealer is wizzed off at Cat and might be quiting as a Cat dealer. I didn't want to switch dealers, so I am switching back to a 2009 800 Switchback.
I think Polaris jumped the gun, when they put that 900 out. I understand there was a fix for the vibration. But, it taught Polaris a lesson to not put engines out too quick, or at least I hope so. I know the IQ chassis has proven to be great. I just hope that 800 is smooth. I really don't even care about the power.
better be safe than sorry, with all the bad reports on the 06s I'd recommend staying away from that sled. Resale on them are way down and a stock F7 will destroy it.
OK...many thanks to all who responded to this thread
Of the 2 sleds below
Which would you choose ? Any why ?
