To those who ride with saddle or other sled bags:
how do you like them? advantages? disadvantages?
I'm lookin' at pickin' some up but i'm trying to figure out what type of bag (handlebar, tank, saddle, etc) but not positive yet, so just figured i'd ask you guys for opinions.
thanks.

What do you intend on using them for? Overnight, daytrips, or just for a little extra storage. Back when I toured a bit more I ran the tunnel bags, which will give you the most capacity for clothes & gear. After that I went to the tank bag of the XC which was plenty nice for storing a camera, hat, extra pair of gloves, maps, and a few bottles of water & trail mix.
Stay away from the backpacks unless your planning on going off trail. Wearing a backpack full of overnight gear on a day long ride will kill your back.

Last year my son would put everything he could think of in his backpack to try to add more lead in his britches so he could throw his sled around. I helped him add weight so I could try to keep up with him. It's tough to keep up with a 100 lb. 14 year old.
I endoe'd my dirt bike trying to keep up with him this summer. I broke my wrist racing him around a motocross track when he was 8. But i'm not giving in.
In answer to the saddle bags; ride with my kid, he'll carry your stuff in his backpack.

LOL
I have gone on a couple pack mule trips in the past and my rear ones after a couple hunert miles tend to get built up with the snow burble so weve learned to pack the stuff in zip lock or plastic garbage bags to keep it dry... The other thing is make sure they are secured down , been with a few that lost em off the back (hafta double down on the BVDs then)...
Now I go with the tank bag or combo it up with a windshield bag, seems a decent backpack is best for the two night plus trips... I still load everthing in plastic bags for the occasianal UP winter rainshowers.
