start with the rope on the recoil. if you have to disassemble the whole spring housing to tie the new rope on be careful i've had them break and unwind on some old cats. you may be able to tie the new rope on by fishing it through the housing, can be a pain but is do-able with most. rope is usually 6-8' long depending on how thick of a rope. once tied on to the recoil housing wrap the rope around till it sits in the notch in the housing. after in the notch wind the recoil while holding the rope in the notch. was always told to wind the recoil fully then back it off one turn. now the tricky part is feeding the rope back through the external housing with out having the recoil retract. i've used rubber coated vise grips in the past to hold the rope and not to damage the new rope while feeding it through the housing and sled to get the handle back on. once handle is tied back on pull vise grip to let retract. don't need to use the vise grip but is nice not having to hold the rope in one hand and feed with the other. just did this last week with one of my sleds. hope this helps easier for me to do then explain.

Just what he said. But before you start, make sure the ends of the springs didn't break off. If it flew apart on ya. I've seen it happen before, real bummer after all the time spent winding and fishing rope threw the hole.

And b sure to use recoil rope, I've seen peeps use whatever rope was at the hardware store and it does not work very long.

Don't take it in, try it a couple more times. You'll get it. If you take it in the only thing that will be gone through is your wallet. Do you have any small engine shops around you??
I would try one of them first if you are going to take it anywhere. I would bet hands down they have more experience than your dealer. A lot cheaper too

I should clarify that i mean i'm going to take it a private party and have it looked at.Yes i agree it could cost a lot of mula at the dealership but sometimes your better off. I'm extremly bummed that the season is over already, it hurts like hell to put the big blanket over them and put them to bed

I don't know about that. The only thing the dealer has is up to date info. and they cover warranty work. Other than that, I'll do it myself. I know whats actually been done and done right.
