Anyone know what could of happened to my buddies sled while he was crusing like a jet and all of a sudden his sled shut down and when we went to start it, it felt like it was seized
up so we took the belt off and I towed him with my POLARIS :)
about 30 miles back home, when we got there the machine turned over with the rope and didnt seem seized up, we did not try to start it incase it would damage the sled .anyone have ideas? The antifreeze is full , no warning lights came on , nor did anything smell hot. Thanks

Sounds like you burned one down. A lot of times, you can put oil into the cylinder and turn it over after one goes. How does the top of the piston compare to the other one?

what happens when you grab the clutch and try to wiggle it??? My sled did that when i lost the bearing. Or like Howler said take a look at the top of the pistons. acctuly put your finger on the sparkplug hole and pul it over. if it blowes your finger off the hole you hae plenty of presure. But if you hae the heads off already you should beabe to figure it out in a second.

I had the exact symptoms with a '02 600 Legend. We sat on the trail for a half hour or so after it died, and then it started up fine, however it obviously didn't have the same power. Turns out i did burn a piston. Do a compression check too if ya can, the finger over the plug hole works to give you an idea. It probably WAS seized for a while until things cooled down, then it pulled over fine after it cooled down. So, I would bet on a smoked piston. That SUX!!

Does anyone know if a seized up crank bearing would be detected by a mechnic while he was reboring the head, replaceing a piston and rings in a cylinder before he puts it all back together? My buddy got a call that his sled was half ass done and the bill was 545 dollars. and then the guy told him a crank bearing is seized up . now this was after he put it all back together and he said it would be another 500 bucks to fix the bearing. And then the guy said he could buy it from him for parts. The sled wasnt seized up when we took it over to him.
When it rains, it pours. Possible that all that work got done then seized. Been there dun that

you dont need to take out the crank to bore the cylinders or replace the rings. I bet he found out when he started the motor to check for leaks and stuff. once the bearing heats up she siezes up. sorry to hear about the bad luck. Good thing he cought it now b4 is started to wobble and acctuly snapp the crank in 2.

The shop guy said he went to purge the coolant system and he noticed the bearing was seized. i know you dont have to pull the crank to bore the jug i was just wondering if there was a way to tell it was bad before he put it all back together. By buddy bought the sled for 1200 which was real cheap fro abuddy of his. So how much is the sled worth now if he sells it to the shop? they gave him a bill for 545 bucks so hes got 1745 into it and they said another 500 to replace the crank bearing.

i dont think you can tell untill it goes. I know i had no clue when mine went. To answer your question about how much it is worth.. i ask you would you pay 2200 for a sled that had a fresh rebuild and you know its done right. And i am sure the shop you had it done at has some kind of warrenty on the motor. I think your still sitting good.
