SnowTracks.com - Trail Reports & Conditions

Reported by:   Richard Smith
Date of Report:   December 8, 2009
Trail Conditions:   Fair
Snow Cover:   6 to 12 inches

Area Report:   Intro: Hi I am Amy from Amy’s Walleye Lodge & Motel located on the North shore of Lake Gogebic one mile West of Bergland and in the heart of BIG SNOW COUNTRY. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. My husband Mike is a boilermaker, we have a daughter Jordan, son Mike Jr and handyman Tom, to round out our crew. The Western UP has a very large trail system and conditions change sometimes by the hour so always check with your host (hopefully us) to get the latest condition updates. We try to stay in touch with the groomers and quiz our guests so we can bring all of our guests the latest info. (These reports will be general for our area.)

REPORT: Well, this is my first year as owner of Amy’s Walleye Lodge and the snow Gods are looking down on us. We have six inches here and a foot to our north in the high country. Some early season riders were evident as we checked on the snow depths up on Federal Road 400. The forecast sounds good for snow so things will be picking up soon. We like to let the sleds pack a good base before we start grooming in earnest. If you are looking for an early season ride come on up we have special pre-season rates and rooms open, we will even tell you where the good snow is. We also have rooms open for the Christmas week so call early and get the room that best fits your needs. I look forward to meeting you, I love to ride but will probably be very busy on my side of the counter this first year.
No Gas in Silver City yet but they have it in White Pine so top off before you take #102, this is a beautiful trail you shouldn’t miss. If you want some great early season riding come on up. We have the best trails, easy access, most snow and rooms open, we truly would appreciate your business, give us a call we will do what we can to make your stay a fun time. We added NFL Sunday Ticket Super Fan to our TV menu so we have your game, along with the best snow and trail access. Fishing will start soon as the bay was frozen for as far as you could see this morning. Book early to be sure to get the rooms that best fit your needs. Thanks in advance Amy.

Bergland, Michigan - Snowmobiling Information

Bergland Michigan is centrally located so it can be used as a hub for your snowmobile activity whether you are looking for family fun, a weekend getaway or overnighters. The trails offer winding forest trails, scenic overlooks, railroad grades, bridges, hills, lakes, cedar swamps, and logging roads - all in a days ride.

Bergland to Iron River & Iron Mountain to Lake Gogebic (overnight) Take Lake Gogebic Trail 1 or 13 south to Trail 2. Go east to Watersmeet, through Iron River and on to Iron Mountain. Stay overnight in Iron Mountain approximately 130 miles. Leave Iron Mountain heading north on Trail 5, then east on Trail 16 to Crystal Falls where you head north on Trail 111 to Trail 15 north to Trail 8 and go west through Kenton, Bruce Crossing, Ewen and Bergland approximately 150 miles.

You may shorten this trip by staying over at Iron River. That would make it approximately 86 miles the first day. Leaving Iron River you would backtrack west, 6 miles on Trail 2 and go north on Trail 15 to Trail 8 and go west through Kenton, Bruce Crossing, Ewen and back to Bergland. Approximately 95 miles. This is an easy ride.

Bergland to Copper Harbor & Back to Lake Gogebic (Overnight) Take Lake Gogebic Trail 1 or 13 and north on Trail 13 out of Bergland to Rockland and Greenland. Pick up Trail 3 (Bill Nichols Trail) to Houghton. Follow trail 3 to Trail 132 and into Copper Harbor approximately 175 miles. Follow the same route back. This is a very picturesque trip and includes the three Firesteel Bridegs and the bridge at Houghton.

Bergland into Wisconsin and Return (day trip) Take Lake Gogebic Trail 1 or 13 south to Trail 2 east to Watersmeet. Go south on Trail 3 to Land'O Lakes west on Trail 6 (Wisconsin) and follow signs to Bents Camp for lunch. Back out to Trail 6, which turns into Trail 15 west to Presque Isle. Go north on Trail 1 back to Michigan, Marenisco and on to Lake Gogebic. The entire trip is approximately 100 miles.

Bergland to Lake of the Clouds and Return (day trip) Take Lake Gogebic Trail 1 north to Silver City then west to the Porcupine Mountains and Lake of the Clouds. On the way back down from Lake of the Clouds pick up Trail 11 south to Trail 8 and Wakefield. Go west on Trail 2 to Marenisco and north on Trail 1 back to Lake Gogebic (approximately 115 miles)

These are just some suggestions but the possibilities are endless. Be sure to pick up trail maps at any area resort or gas station and check trail conditions before you go. The mileage may vary depending on possible trail re-routing. We want you to enjoy your visit with us.
