| News and Events: |
Most city streets are open to snowmobile traffic, with the exception of War Memorial Hospital, James Terrace, and Lake Superior University areas. Marquette Ave. is now closed to snowmobiles, due to sledders riding on the plowed sidewalks. Snowmobile speed not to exceed 20 mph, and you must stop at all intersections. Please watch for closed streets, which are posted. City curfew from 1:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. PLEASE remember to stay off plowed sidewalks!! The city trail provides easy access to trails to the west via a newly opened 12-foot X 12-foot tunnel underneath the I-75 expressway! You no longer have to run 3 Mile Rd overpass to get to the trail. A visitor can travel right from the hotel to gas or food, by sled, and right out of the city on a groomed trail.

The
Eastern Upper Peninsula offers a wide variety of things to do in
summer, fall and winter. But if you are looking for a wintry escape,
the EUP is the place to go. Take your pick from twelve well-groomed
trails that wind across the area. They provide over 1,000 miles
of riding pleasure. Take a chance to enjoy nature at its greatest
wonder. Trails blanketed by the whitest of snow, sheltered by bridges
of tree branches and sights that are just unbelievable. View whitetail
deer and snow bunnies as you travel along the trails.
There
may be a chance that you want to go on a snowmobile excursion and
you dont own your own. Well, dont go out and buy a new
one. There are many rental places located in the EUP. By chance
you may forget your suits, helmets or your trailer may take a turn
for the worse, but dont worry, there are enough places that
you can replace your old with something new.
Along
the 1,000 miles of riding, you may need to plan an overnight stay.
There are numerous motels and hotels along your way to rest your
throttle thumb. Youll also need your energy to keep on riding
so plan to stop at one of the many resturants along the way, for
example, The Cozy Corners in Barbeau, Michigan.
For
a $20 dollar fee you can purchase a sticker that allows access to
all Michigan snowmobile trails for a year. This fee is also used
to keep the trails in good riding condition.
The
Upper Peninsula was voted best overall snowmobiling area, most scenic
snowmobiling area, best trail riding, best powder riding and most
challenging riding area in 2002 by the Snow Goer magazine giving
out its Annual Snow Time awards.
