Trail Conditions: Closed
Snow Cover: 30+
Date of Report: November 28, 2025
Area Report:

We received one of the largest snow storms in years, especially this early on. With that our trails have received substantial damage with downed trees and brush. After hunting season on Sunday, crews will start to go out and begin clearing the trails for our groomers with rollers to be able to get through and start building a base. The Iron County Rec Council will be meeting on Monday and will most likely determine a trail opening date.

Stay tuned!

EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
ARE CLOSED

Short report this mornin”

Gun Deer Season ends 11/30 at dusk.  Clubs in Vilas to include Eagle River will be out inspecting the trails after sleet, SNOW & wind for downed trees & limbs.  The northern part of the County received 1 foot +- so many of those clubs will begin panning or rolling to begin building the hard icy base.  That hard frozen base will help keep the trails in good shape should a warm up happen this Winter riding season.

The trails still need more SNOW in the Eagle River area to open.  Lake Snow over night amounted to about 2 inches 6 miles east of Eagle River.  That brings the total out east to 6+-. More SNOW tomorrow, Saturday.  Looks to be maybe an inch of real SNOW.

Temps are going to be in the low 20’s & single digits for the couple weeks.  Some daytime highs in the teens & couple of below zero at night.  SNOW not going anywhere.

Think Cold!  Start Doin’ A Snow Dance!

Finally some SNOW!   Eagle River got 5+- inches of SNOW over the last couple days.  Combination of real snow & Lake Effect.

Sno-Eagles has been finishing up brushing, limbing & marking trails.   Work also continues on a few re-routes. Lots of high winds yesterday meaning all trails will have to be checked for downed trees & limbs.

Going to be a while before trails are ready to open.  First the Deer Gun season runs ’til Sunday.  We also need lots more SNOW to even consider opening.

Temps are going to be in the low 20’s to high teens through December 11 so moving in the right direction for a good freeze down of the trails!  SNOW in the forecast off & on during that time. Lake have a long way to go.

Think Cold!  Later on a Snow Dance!

Snowmobile Information:

OK snow fans, the first big balloon has gone up. I have about 8″ on the ground here in Lac du Flambeau, and the winds are shaking the house at times, even though they are northwest and we are more or less protected here. Could be gusts up to 40-55mph later. North of here they are getting hammered. Power is out all over, trees are down, roads are icy, snow is deep. The weather outside is frightful, but the squirrels and I think it is delightful. Isn’t it cool? Then you ask, is that Toulish guy “funny”? Nothing trail wise to report other than the steely eyed professionals at Horseshoe command are ready to pounce as soon as conditions and calendar warrant. We also sold out on tickets for the December calendar raffle. We start drawing December 1st. Thank you and good luck to all that participated. Sounds like all the models indicate a cold and snowy December, so hopefully we jump out of the blocks and run this winter. Be safe over the next few days, and Happy Thanksgiving! Mark

Well, today is the first day the ground was all white, A couple days of cold, then a warmup over the next week or so. Northern Hornshoes completed brush work last Friday. Great turnout of hard workers. Keith and Nick are making a run of the whole circuit in the next week to fine tune signs. A big thank you to the tribal public works for doing roadwork in the Raven lake area, down by Crawling Stone and Moss Lake, and on the main grade on 17. Wide open and beautiful. We will have to keep an eye on rocks as things settle out. A reminder that Northern Hornshoe calendar raffle tickets are still on sale through November. Cash Raffle drawn daily. $20 a ticket and $100 and $500 winners depending on the day.We also have some cool apparel on sale on our website at Hornshoe.org, Pretty cool website. We were honored to be awarded Snowmobile Friendly City this spring.Take a look at some of those handsome faces on the website – we are friendly, happy happy happy, and lots of fun. As a group we spend a lot of time making our trails what they are, but we have a good time doing it. If you do not belong to a club, I always urge people to do so. You learn a lot about the mountains of work and hundreds of volunteers that make this sport what it is. Keep up the snow dances. Mark

Well, the time has come to unlimber the old Snowtracks report. They did not shun my login, so I am good for now. This year I scaled down to five snowmobile clubs-Mercer, Cruisers, White Thunder, Midnite Trail Riders in Green Bay, and my main squeeze, and the home of my reports, and my home, Northern Hornshoes, in Lac du Flambeau. We are doing another calendar raffle this year in December. $20 a ticket, and 31 chances to win. $100 winners and $500 winners. Last year I told 8 out of the 30 winners, including TWO $500 winners. ( And no, I did not win. Rats.) But I am having fun with the bragging rights!! Clubs need your help. With the minimal snow, groomer dollars were down, but they basically help cover overhead, not capitol improvements. Our capitol needs improvements. When you see those steely eyed professionals at the table in front of the hardware store, or the grocery store, stop and say Hi, and thank you. Until then watch for snow. Mark
