Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 6-9 inches of snow

Date of Report: December 31, 2021

Area Report:

December 31

Attention riders:

On trail 18 south between the Chippewa Flowage and trail 21 there is a gate on the tribal owned campsite. Attempts to get it open have not been successful at this time, the club is currently still working on but do not have authority to open. Until then the trail is closed so please reroute if traveling south past the dam on trail 18 to 12 south. Or if coming north on trail 6 from the Tuscobia stay on 6 up the river towards Deer Run and stay on 18 on the Flowage or if going north towards Moose Lake stay on 6 to 12.

First pass on 8w to Washburn County, and 31N to Bayfield County is groomed. 31 north of Seeley Fire Lane is passable but not ideal as it has been rutted from logging trucks.

5 south to Rusk County line has been groomed.

Trail 9 is groomed as of this morning to the Oasis. The Tuscobia is groomed from the 9 mile loop to Winter.

If you are riding in the Winter area please ride with caution on trail 5 both from Hwy 70 to Blaisdell Lake Rd. The swamp is not strong enough to hold a groomer quite yet so this portion has not been groomed. The trail from Blaisdell Lake Rd to Trap n Fish and Hwy 70 north to the swamp area has been groomed. The temps are cold today will hold there through the weekend so the swamp should freeze more to withstand the groomer over the weekend.

A reminder for the upcoming weekend:  The annual “Tuscobia Winter Ultra” non motorized marathon is this coming weekend. Starting at 6am Friday, December 31 and ending at 6pm January 2nd, hikers, skiers and fat tire bicyclists will be on the Tuscobia 24/7 from Rice Lake to Park Falls. They will be departing at different times. If anyone is using the Tuscobia with their snowmobile please be courteous and slow down when meeting or passing anyone.

Boulder Junction Snowmobile Club Trail Report – Wednesday, 12/29/21:

It’s 22 degrees this morning and we received a dusting of snow Thursday afternoon into the evening. Our forecast calls for chance of light snow this afternoon, followed by low temps throughout the weekend. Our trails have had heavy traffic all week, but with low temps and daily grooming, they have held up and are in good riding condition. Trails coming into, through, and out of Boulder Junction are getting thin and the approaching corners are becoming icy. Some corners in the hilly sections of our trails are getting down to the ice base.

Our daily grooming schedule is as follows: 15N, 6E, 2W, and 8W are groomed from late afternoon into the evening. Trails 15S and 8E are groomed early morning and finished by sunrise. Even with daily grooming, heavy traffic will wear down the trails as the day goes on – so, get out early for the best riding of the day! Enjoy our trails, be safe, and check for an updated report on Monday, January 3, 2022.

Happy New Year!

EAGLE RIVER TRAILS IN EARLY SEASON RIDING CONDITION

December 31, 2021 6:33 am 21 degrees

Light SNOW off & on yesterday. 1-2 inches with a little hard frozen sleet last night.  This afternoon chance of SNOW this afternoon into tonight with 1/2 inch forecast. Next SNOW looks to be this coming Tuesday.

For the next couple of weeks temps will reach the mid 20’s during the day a few days.  For the most part highs will be in the teens or even single digits during the day.  Overnight temps single digits with many night below zero. SNOW off & on.  So…..Keep Doin’ The SNOW DANCE!

In Sno-Eagles Country, Eagle River trails are in EARLY RIDING CONDITION. Most trails have plenty of SNOW cover.  Riding we found a few open areas that were thin but SNOW covered.  So more new SNOW would be great.  All the swamps are frozen.  That includes, Trail 3 aka Manske Swamp, Trail 10 Wisconsin River bridge area, Trail 10E from Bloom Rd crossing toward town & heading west on Trails 13/7/70 the section just after crossing Oak Lane where it goes past The Toy Shop. A few crusty, choppy frozen spots.  Otherwise, it’s Time To Ride!

Catfish & Eagle lake trails were marked & are NOW OPEN.  To be safe stay by the orange reflective barrels.  Note the spur from the northside Eagle Lake boat launch the leads to Eagle Waters is NOT OPEN.

Overnight the groomers groomed a good portion of the Sno-Eagles system focusing on the trails heading WEST & SOUTH of Eagle River.  Here’s what was not groomed:

*10E to include all the spurs off of 10E (all are east of Eagle River)

Grampa Grahm Trail 1N off of 10E (trail to Eagle Waters)
Spur off 10E heading to Chanticleer & entrance to Eagle Lake
             9 Mile Trail
*10/13N from County Hwy G crossing to Conover connect (north of Eagle River)
*3N aka Manske Swamp (north of town)
*Wisconsin River aka Trail 10 which head west from 10/13N intersection (north of Eagle River)
*17N – which begins north or Eagle River at the intersection of 10/13N & 17N (across hwy from Derby Inn)
*10E to include all the spurs off of 10E
*1 that runs to the Eagle Lake boat launch from the north

There is a re route on 10/13/7/17 heading west.  Here’s a photo of the change.  It’s a rough ride now.  Should smooth out as we get more SNOW.  Please stay on the trail.

Trail 10-13 heading westk re reoute 12-2021
KEEP DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!

Perfect riding weather!  See ya all on the trails!

Trail Report – : Bayfield County, Wisconsin – December 30, 2021

Reporter:BayfieldCounty

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 4-6 inches

Date of Report: December 30, 2021

Area Report:

Trails throughout the county are still in early season condition with spotty snow coverage in some areas.  The whole county received snow but the base is thin in spots. Hopefully the cold weather helps us maintain what we have. Be aware that there are still places with exposed rocks, gravel, and mud holes so ride carefully. Thank you to our groomers for working hard to get the trails open!

Just a reminder to all to please respect private landowners and stay on the trail. Stay on the trail or stay home!

Some trouble spots to note:

  • The Wally Polk Trail/Trail 40 near Port Wing and Herbster is closed. Flag road is a suitable re-route.
  • Trail 1 to Red Cliff/the Casino is temporarily closed. We ran into a landowner issue but hope to have a resolution within the week.

Namakagon Trail Groomers: Gene & the guys were out in the Huskies and got the majority of the trail system panned yesterday (Tues) with we’re going out this morning and finished the last remaining section which was Lake Namakagon to Grand View & back. We have not driven through any of the marsh/swamp areas – we’ll let the snowmobiles pack them down first. We have not seen or heard of any issues. After packing the trails, we don’t seem to have much snow but the cold weather should hopefully help them hold up as well as possible. Round about a 2-4″ base. It is definitely “EARLY SEASON RIDING”

Barnes Barnestormers: Barnes trails are looking beautiful; we have everything groomed. Groomed 31 south of Mulligan Creek Rd. today  (12/29/21).

Drummond SnoJacks: All trails out of Drummond are groomed and trail 4 to Sanborn are open and groomed. Trail 63 from Grand View to Mason is ok.  The water crossing in the Bibon Swamp is frozen.

Iron River: The tri-county corridor was groomed to Brule. Trails 22,24 and 31 Ruth Lake to Iron River are also groomed. Grooming Trail 4 to Mason and Friday Trail 31 north to Trail 63. The trails groomed today looked great. Seems to be 12-14 inches of snow in this area total.

Washburn Valhallers: The Washburn groomer was out yesterday (Tuesday) and groomed Trail 33, 31, and 63 (Moqua Spur).  The trails groomed up nicely and with the added 4-5 inches last night, they should be ready to ride for Thursday.  We are out today (Wednesday) grooming 31 and 35 today up through the Sunbowl and will groom 13 tomorrow into Washburn and to the Ashland corridor.  Trails appear to be in good riding shape.

South Shore– Port Wing, Herbster & Cornucopia: There are still mud holes on the trails that need to freeze, but trails are passable. Close to the lake there are weeds showing once the snow was packed down but there’s at least a base. We need a good freeze down and will leave the trail till next week before more grooming by the lake.
