Trail Report – : Hayward / Sawyer County, Wisconsin – December 13, 2021

Reporter:haywardlakes

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 6-9 inches of snow

Date of Report: December 13, 2021

Area Report:

Late last week and over the weekend we received some much-needed snow!  Clubs are starting to pack swamps, but grooming operations have not yet begun and lakes have not been staked.  We have some warm weather in the forecast this week and are hoping to preserve as much snow as possible.  A cool down late this week and into the following will certainly help get the lakes set up.  Be sure to check back often as conditions change and we will keep you updated with the latest snow reports.  We can’t wait to see you in Sawyer County and the Hayward Lakes Area!

Trail Report – : Keweenaw Peninsula / Houghton-Hancock, South Range, Copper Harbor, Michigan – December 12, 2021

Reporter:Stretch

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 37 inches

Date of Report: December 12, 2021

Area Report:

As of today I’ve recorded 37 inches total snow fall in a little over a week. Monday westarted grooming some of our trails here in the Keweenaw. I started grooming Houghton to Toivola and they are shaping up real good for early season. From Hancock north we have groomed some of the trail system but we have a couple spots still closed to logging.

Bad news is we are in the 40’s today through Thursday with lots of sun. We have enough snow but it will settle some before we get back in colder weather.

Keep in mind the bridge is still closed to snowmobile traffic until after December 20th.  Also trail 122 and 3 north of Phoenix just opened today so give the groomers a little time to work their magic. The trail between Eagle Harbor and Eagle River ( Eagles Loop) is still closed to logging and I do not have a time schedule yet. Last our trail 133 was given back to us after 4 years of logging and we are currently trying to get it open to snowmobile traffic.

It’s early season riding so ride with caution especially on those trails that just opened.

Trail Report – : Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin – December 10, 2021

Reporter:Toulish1

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 12″ more or less

Date of Report: December 10, 2021

Snowmobile Information:

The Northern Hornshoe Club will start panning today. We have about 12″ on the ground now with a projection of 8-10″ heavy, wet snow tonight. I may be in the groomer Monday, and we should have a better idea by then if we are go for launch on the 15th, or not. Trail 1, Stearns Lake Road, has a nice icy cap right now thanks to the ground being warmer when it snowed. I pushed some snow for the neighbors two days ago, and the ground was not frozen. That, and warm weather projected for next week, will make it interesting for sure. I follow a couple of local groups from Fence Lake, and Vilas County. This morning one person asked if trails are open, and another responded, ” Join a club and find out.” That is good advice. I am a part of two clubs. Even if you do not have opportunity to be active, you learn a lot about what it takes to make our sport great. Landowner relations, signing, brushing, grooming- all volunteer. We work with the tribe, our township, and our county. We also have relationships with local business that help support. I have gone to the Vilas County Alliance meetings, and I hear what more great volunteers do working with the state. It is an amazing group of people. But at any rate, I will post trail updates as we get closer to the green flag. Mark
