Trail Report – : Rhinelander, Wisconsin – December 7, 2021

Reporter:Hodag SnoTrails

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 6-8″ fluffy white gold

Date of Report: December 7, 2021

Area Report:

Yes, white gold is covering the trail base.  The trails are not open, and there is not a date set for opening at this point. The swamps and lakes need to freeze over solid before trails can open. The groomer drivers and club  members are out inspecting and most importantly packing the trails to get them ready for opening.  All trails must be inspected and packed. The challenge with the large amount of snow that fell last weekend as it acts as an insulator, slowing the freeze down of the swamps.  Multiple trips with snowmobiles and/or the groomer will help the process.  Some areas are too wet for the groomers to go through, and sled traffic is the needed mode of trail packing.

Make no mistake, this is a good start to the season, just takes time and cold weather to get them ready for opening.

If you haven’t joined a club, please do.  All clubs could use the support of all that use the trails.  Thank you for your patience, and more news to come.

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow.

Snow Cover: 4-5 inches – SNOWING NOW

Date of Report: December 5, 2021

Area Report:

Heavy SNOW today in & around Eagle River!  4 new inches of SNOW on the ground already.  SNOW showers at 1:30pm with heavier SNOW moving in again around 3pm.  As always the totals are all over the place.  Looks like at least another 4 inches.  26 degrees at 1:30pm with a low tonight of 21. 28 tomorrow for a high & overnight tomorrow in the ice box 5 below!!  Tuesday forecast high of 13 & 1 below for a low.  Just maybe the SNOW going to stick. Thursday looks like temps will pop up & bring more SNOW.

Vilas County Parks & Rec Supervisor has started trail inspections.  When all 11 clubs are inspected & ready to go as with every year it’s a waiting game until the Muzzle loader season & 4 days youth hunt are completed.  So the earliest would be the December 14th.

In the meantime keep THINKING COLD!  And a SNOW DANCE might be good too.  Try to have some photos of the SNOW tomorrow.

Trail Report – : Keweenaw Peninsula / Houghton-Hancock, South Range, Copper Harbor, Michigan – December 2, 2021

Reporter:Stretch

Trail Conditions: Not Ridable

Snow Cover: 1″-2″

Date of Report: December 2, 2021

Area Report:

The season started yesterday with drizzle and warm weather hitting a high of 40°.  So our trails have very little rain soaked snow which will harden up once it freezes again. Good news the forecast shows for snow this weekend into Monday.

Keep in mind the Portage bridge is not down for snowmobile traffic yet due to the on going construction. I’m told by MDOT that it will turned over to us between December 17th and the 20th. I will keep you posted when it will be open for snowmobiling. Also trail 3 from Dollar Bay to Lake Linden and the Frieda trail are still closed.

Trail Report – : Phelps, Wisconsin – December 1, 2021

Reporter:Phelps Snowmobile Club

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 8″-10″

Date of Report: December 1, 2021

Area Report:

Welcome to December.  Snowmobile season is almost here.  Between snowfalls over the weekend and another blast on Monday, we have a good 8″-10″ on the ground.  Grant it that it was pretty fluffy and will settle down quite a bit.  North Twin is about half frozen and more colder weather is needed to freeze the lakes solid and to firm up the swamps.  Our club has been busy brushing and signing this fall and trails will be ready for when they open.  Panning will begin shortly to help freeze down a solid base for the trails.  Hope all of you have your sleds ready to go.  Please, if you not already a member of a club, join now to help support the trails throughout the state of Wisconsin.  Plus club members receive discount on trail pass purchases.  Remember that when it is time, stay on the marked trail and ride safe.

First Report of the 2021-2022 Season!
2 days of SNOW in Vilas County! Total over the 2 days for Eagle River is 6-8 inches with a bit more east of Eagle River. Looks like the temp will be jumping up Wednesday & Thursday. So what’s needed is a strong THINK COLD!!

In the meantime, Sno-Eagles is busy finishing up securing easements, brushing & signing snowmobile trails. Prepping grooming equipment. The Trail Boss & groomer drivers met last night for an organizational meeting at Erin’s Pub & Grub. A big supporter of the Sno-Eagles trails.

Trails will not open until after the 9 days deer gun hunt, 10 day muzzle loader season & 4 day Youth Hunt are complete. This with snow conditions permitting.

So as I said……THINK COLD! Then we can do THE SNOW DANCE!
