Snow base (in inches): 4-12 inches
Status (Closed, Open, Partially Open): Open
Condition (Poor, Fair, Good, Excellent): Good to Fair
Not a lot of changes to report. Trails remain to good to fair condition with some poor areas where there hasn’t been enough snow. There’s a decent snow storm in the forecast for Thursday into Friday which should improve trail conditions. Stay warm out there!
The same trouble spots still remain:
Namakagon Trail Groomers: Trails remain in fair condition as of 2/3. They have all been groomed on 2/2 & 2/3 and plan on going back out after the snow fall!
Barnes Barnestormers: Not much has changed since last week. The trails held up well despite the heavy traffic and no new snow. Trail 7-17 around town poor to good, bare corners and hills. Trail 17-18 in good condition. Trail 31 is good south of trail 18 intersection. Trail 31 south is plowed for logging south of 43 road. Let’s hope for some new snow.
Drummond SnoJacks: The Drummond area received 2” of new snow last Sunday but only a thin base remains. New snow forecast Wednesday night into Thursday and colder temperatures will improve conditions. All trails will be groomed again before the weekend. Overall conditions are good to fair depending on use.
Iron River Area: Trails in the Iron River area are in fairly good condition. Tri County Corridor continues to be in very good shape with some light rocks surfacing
Washburn Valhallers: Trails in the Valhalla area continue to be in fair to good condition. Active logging on Trail 1 and Trail 31. Wasburn area trails were groomed Monday-Wednesday (2/1-2/3). Trails remain in good shape with the exception of Trail #13 between Washburn and Ashland which is rideable but thin.
South Shore– Port Wing, Herbster & Cornucopia: Trail 1 on the south shore is still poor and in need of snow. Trails 40, 41, 43 and 66 have been groomed and will be done again Thursday 2/4 and remain good to very good!
WAINO: Waino Riders groomed Trail 1 to Tar Paper Alley on Monday. Lack of snow turned him around at that point, but the trail is decent going South to Brule. We will groom again after the snow. Should be able to get to Evergreen road.

Area Report:
GENERAL INFORMATION: Trails continue to improve as the area continues to get more snow. Predicted extreme cold weather over the next few days will aid in grooming, and the trail should harden to create a good surface for riders over the end of the week and weekend.
Logging continues throughout the trails, especially further north on the Arrowhead trail. Please slow down and give trucks and logging equipment space. No Motorized Vehicles other than snowmobiles are allowed on State Trails or Grant-in-Aid snowmobile trails.
There is also a section of the Arrowhead State Trail closed between Hwy 53 (SE of Ericsburg) and the Hagerman Grant-in-Aid trail while the Rat Root River bridge is being replaced, so watch for trail reroute.
Area Trails: The Fenske Lake and Grassy Lake loop have been groomed. White Iron to Birch Lake is groomed. Birch Lake to Babbitt Stony Spur has been groomed. Trail from Burntside Lake to Lake Vermilion has been groomed. Some short sections of the Tomahawk trail are a little rough with low snow conditions. Most of the trails are in fair to excellent condition.
Arrowhead State Trail The Arrowhead State trail is the backbone to an extensive Grant-in-Aid trail system that travels through remote areas.
TRAIL CONDITIONS: Snowmobiling: Condition- Fair to Good; Trail – Groomed; Base – 1-4”
CLOSURE/REROUTE: Hwy 53 east to the Hagerman Grant-in-Aid trail is closed due to a trail bridge being replaced. This section of trail will remain closed until the project is completed. Please use the Hagerman and Slatinski Grant-in-Aid trails to route around the closed bridge. There is signage on both sides of the project directing riders on the reroute.
The Arrowhead Ultra 135 foot/bike/ski race was cancelled this year, but there may be people doing this route on their own from International Falls to Fortune Bay over the next week. Remain especially cautious/vigilant while riding this week!
The entire Arrowhead State Trail has been groomed and is in fair to good condition. Conditions continue to be rougher in the Ban Lake area due to ledge rock at that portion of trail and not enough snow. The entire trail will be fully groomed leading up to and during this coming weekend.
Bearhead Lake State Park Snowmobiling: Condition – Fair; Trails – Groomed; Base 2”
TRAIL CONDITIONS: The Taconite Trail in Bear Head Lake State Park was groomed on January 20 and is in fair condition with some areas of debris and thin base under the large pines.

Please slow down and give trucks and logging equipment space. No Motorized Vehicles other than snowmobiles are allowed on State Trails or Grant-in-Aid snowmobile trails.
