Well the weather guys were almost right with the SNOW totals.  The Eagle River area received 8-10 inches of wet heavy SNOW!  A bit more than they forecast!  On top of that the temps dropped last night.  So….with grooming the cold temps trails are in GOOD to maybe even VERY GOOD condition

If you are riding today or over the next week be prepared with extra warm clothes.  Temps will be 0-1 degree for highs during the day & double digits below zero every night for the next week.  Here are some cold weather riding tips:

  • Extra layers of clothing
  • Gloves/mittens with long lasting hand warmers or try a pair of battery heated gloves. Gauntlets over handle bars good too
  • Cold weather boots with layered socks
  • Fully charged phone stored in the inside pocket of your jacket
  • Heated shields are great other wise remember to breath through your nose to prevent fogging
  • Stop more frequently & drink water. Cold can cause dehydration

Thinking the new snow should stop off trail riding.  Please stay on the trails to keep the trails open.

Catfish & Eagle Lake trails are marked with orange reflective barrels.  Please stay by the barrels to be safe.  The lakes are marked by the businesses on the lake so stop in & thank them when you’re out riding.

TIME TO RIDE IF YOU ARE HARDY!

SEE YA ON THE TRAILS!!!

Gogebic Range Trail Authority – Snowmobile & ORV Club Trail Report 2/5/2021

Our trails are rated good to very good.  Groomers were out last night and groomed 11S, Trail 2 from Hurley to Marenisco, Trail 8 from Wakefield to the turn around on M-28.  160 will be done today and everything will be groomed again after 160 is groomed.  It will take a few grooms to pack the snow into a base.  Some trails will be full of snow with the wind drifting them closed so use caution.  Enjoy the new snow and stay warm.

11S has logging ongoing please yield to logging trucks and slow down..

Gogebic Area Groomers Report 2/2/2021

I have no new report from the Gogebic Area Groomers but after all this snow I am sure they are out grooming.  We have gotten snow across our whole system so trails should be in great shape.

Trail Report – : Oconto County, Wisconsin – February 4, 2021

Reporter:Oconto County Tourism

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 5-7

Date of Report: February 4, 2021

Area Report:

Oconto County will be partially opening Friday, February 5, 2021 at NOON.

Oconto County snowmobile clubs and volunteers have worked tirelessly to get the Red Arrow, Paul Bunyan, Iron Snowshoe, Chute Pond and Bag/Bra Club Snowmobile Trials cleaned up, groomed and ready for your snowmobiling enjoyment.  There are a few sections of trail that are not open.  The trails South of Suring remain closed as the majority of those trails are on Ag land that need to be prepared for a safe riding experience.  The Nicolet State Trail, aka the grade, is open from Gillett to Forest County.

Logging is currently in process on both County and Federal Properties. Please when coming into a logging area, follow the signage and never go under or near logging equipment when they are in use.  This is a very dangerous situation and if it continues, the trail may be shut down or forced to be rerouted.  Let’s all be safe and patient when we are on the trails.  Logging equipment has the right of way.

The nine snowmobile clubs in Oconto County work together with the Oconto County Forest Administrator, who gives the final approval before trails may open.  Once the Southern trails are approved to open, the announcement will appear on the official Oconto County Trail Report web page https://www.ocontocounty.org/trail-reports/ .

For your own safety, and that of the club groomers and volunteers- please stay off the southern trails – do not ride on closed trails. For more information, please contact the Oconto County website or the Forest and Parks Department at 920-834-6995.

Trail Report – : Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin – February 4, 2021

Reporter:Manitowish Waters Chamber

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 8-10 Inches

Date of Report: February 4, 2021

Area Report:

The Manitowish Waters Sno Skeeters Trails are getting some much needed snow.  4-5″ overnight and it is still snowing!
Our trails are in good condition.  The new snow will make riding fun, but also a little loose and squirrelly until it gets packed down.  Use caution in the corners as there are a lot of riders out today.  There will be more with the weekend as soon as word gets out of the new snow.   Watch for the Groomers as you are out riding and help by getting to the side of the trail or off of the trail.   Heavy snow at times makes visibility low.

Trail Report – : Bayfield County, Wisconsin – February 3, 2021

Reporter:BayfieldCounty

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 4-12 inches

Date of Report: February 3, 2021

Area Report:

Snow base (in inches):  4-12 inches

Status (Closed, Open, Partially Open): Open

Condition (Poor, Fair, Good, Excellent): Good to Fair

Not a lot of changes to report. Trails remain to good to fair condition with some poor areas where there hasn’t been enough snow. There’s a decent snow storm in the forecast for Thursday into Friday which should improve trail conditions. Stay warm out there!

The same trouble spots still remain:

  • The Grand View and Mason areas didn’t receive much snow and sled traffic could damage farm fields. Please use caution.
  • Trail 1 along the South shore is rough but passable.
  • The trail into the City of Bayfield will not open this year, but we’re hopeful for next year.
  • Trail 1 to the casino in Red Cliff is open with a re-route. It’s a bit rough in spots so use caution. The re-route utilizes the right of way along the highway so please respect private landowners and follow the signs and groomed path.

Namakagon Trail Groomers: Trails remain in fair condition as of 2/3. They have all been groomed on 2/2 & 2/3 and plan on going back out after the snow fall!

Barnes Barnestormers: Not much has changed since last week. The trails held up well despite the heavy traffic and no new snow. Trail 7-17 around town poor to good, bare corners and hills. Trail 17-18 in good condition. Trail 31 is good south of trail 18 intersection. Trail 31 south is plowed for logging south of 43 road. Let’s hope for some new snow.

Drummond SnoJacks: The Drummond area received 2” of new snow last Sunday but only a thin base remains. New snow forecast Wednesday night into Thursday and colder temperatures will improve conditions. All trails will be groomed again before the weekend. Overall conditions are good to fair depending on use.

Iron River Area: Trails in the Iron River area are in fairly good condition. Tri County Corridor continues to be in very good shape with some light rocks surfacing

Washburn Valhallers: Trails in the Valhalla area continue to be in fair to good condition. Active logging on Trail 1 and Trail 31. Wasburn area trails were groomed Monday-Wednesday (2/1-2/3).   Trails remain in good shape with the exception of Trail #13 between Washburn and Ashland which is rideable but thin.

South Shore– Port Wing, Herbster & Cornucopia: Trail 1 on the south shore is still poor and in need of snow. Trails 40, 41, 43 and 66 have been groomed and will be done again Thursday 2/4 and remain good to very good!

WAINO: Waino Riders groomed Trail 1 to Tar Paper Alley on Monday. Lack of snow turned him around at that point, but the trail is decent going South to Brule. We will groom again after the snow. Should be able to get to Evergreen road.
