Snowmobile Information:
We had about 4″ of light fluffy snow on Monday. It did not really do anything except make everything white. We had a groomer operator meeting Monday night for the Northern Hornshoe Club and Keith let us know that groomer operations are suspended for at least 10 days. John Dees snow forecast is pretty bleak out to the 12th.

Area Report:
Haven’t seen snow in a few days now and warm temperatures for this time of year. Not enough snow to groom with some bare spots on the trails. We have had some issues arise with in some of the areas in the National Forest were logging is being done. Please when coming into a logging staging area, follow the sinage and never go under or near logging equipment when they are in use. This is a very dangerous situation and if it contiues, the trail may be shut down or forced to be rerouted. Lets all be safe and patiant when we are on the trails. It’s not like we are in a rush to get to work or pick up the kids. Logging equipment has the right of way. They are at work and you are on vacation. Please stay on the trails. If not, we may lose them. Stay posted for updates.

Condition (Poor, Fair, Good, Excellent): Fair to Poor
The same trouble spots still remain:
Namakagon Trail Groomers: Our groomers may try to go out again on Thursday. Trails are rideable but poor condition.
Barnes Barnestormers: The base we had got pretty beat up over the New Year’s weekend, especially close to town. We have groomed trails 7-17 around the Town of Barnes, 31 south to Sealy Fire Lane and trails 17-18 will be done tonight. 31 north is in poor condition unsure if we will groom that section. Expect to see bare spots, exposed rocks and gravel. There is a 1.5 mile of plowed section on 31 south (just south of 43 Rd) logging in that section. Overall poor to fair riding conditions.
Drummond SnoJacks: Drummond groomer is down with mechanical issues and in for repair. Trails in poor condition.
Iron River: Iron River area trails are in poor shape. They will all be groomed by the weekend. The tri-County corridor is in very good condition from Brule to Forest Road 241 (Ashland County grooms from there to Ashland).
Frosty’s Vintage Riders: Trails held up decent over the weekend considering the lack of snow, groomed yesterday but there are now plenty of areas with little to no snow, overall conditions fair to poor.
Washburn Valhallers: We groomed the Moquah spur on 1/4/21 (Trail #63, 31 and 33) to Valhalla and it remains in good shape. There is more snow towards Valhalla and some exposed rocks toward Moquah so riders should use caution. We are grooming Trail #13 from Valhalla to Washburn today, 1/5/31. This trail remains in decent shape but the snow does get thinner towards Washburn. We will not groom #13 between Washburn and Ashland until we get more snow. It remains rideable as of 1/5/31 but is thin. We continue to groom Trail #31 around Valhalla and this trail remains in good riding shape.
South Shore– Port Wing, Herbster & Cornucopia: Have had some groomer issues, but will borrow the Iron River groomer and make a pass through the area today 1/6/20. Trails will still be rough but rideable, need more snow!
WAINO – Waino Riders will have trail 1 done before the weekend.

All Washburn County Snowmobile Trails are open at this time. Trail conditions are fair to poor with a 1 to 5 inch snow base. We do have early season type of conditions and some trails may not be groomed yet. Please use caution on lakes as those conditions are not completely safe at this time, the ice conditions vary on each area lake. Clubs are working hard grooming and maintaining trails, so please exercise caution and watch for active trail grooming and trail maintenance. Fingers crossed for a good snowfall to get the trails in great conditions!

Boulder Junction Snowmobile Club Trail Report 1/6/21
Our last grooming was on Monday, 1/4. We tried to fill in divots and pull in snow on the bare spots with limited success.
Sled travel has diminished from the heavy weekend traffic as we’ve only had 91 sleds go past our trail counter in the past 2 days.
If you ride, please be careful as the trails are generally icy in the corners and a snirty mixture of snow elsewhere. Our road trails are still good, but the rest of our trail system is rated as fair to poor.
Because of the lack of new snow, we have decided to suspend further grooming operations until we receive the snow we need.
Remember our club brat fry is this Saturday, 1/9, at the Granary Restaurant from 11:00-2:00

Snowmobile and Winter ATV/UTV Trails (As of 1/5/2021)
Douglas County managed trails are 98% OPEN! The last significant snowfall was on 12/29/20 and we have received a lot of traffic since then. There is more snow cover in the northern half of the county and varying cover across the rest. Most trails are in early season riding conditions so please preserve our snow base.
It is critical that we respect our landowners who allow us to utilize their property for these trails. Please stay on the trail and ride safely. We will provide updates as conditions change.

Trails are in on average Fair to Poor Early Riding Condition
Eagle River trails remain in Early Riding Condition with conditions at Fair to Poor. Hard frozen ground covered with an ice base in most areas. Crusty frozen snow. Snirt. Choppy conditions. Seems the ROW trails have a bit more snow but everywhere there is plenty of snirt. Especially at road crossings. Photo of Trail 10E just taken yesterday is about 6 miles east on the northside of the road. Take 1/5/2021. There was a partial grooming overnight.
Temps have popped up to the high 20’s to low 30’s during the day. Mid to high teens at night. There is a potential for small amounts of SNOW. Stay tuned for more updates.
Both lake trails, Catfish & Eagle are marked by businesses on the lake. This includes the spur to Eagle Waters. Stay by the markers to be safe.
Thanks to the all clubs for all their hard work.
Need cold weather & SNOW. KEEP THINKING COLD & DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!
