Snowmobile and Winter ATV/UTV Trails (As of 12/29/2020)

Douglas County received snow on 12/23/20 and on 12/29/20.  After a lot of hard work from the club volunteers, 80% of the Snowmobile and Winter ATV/UTV trails under the management of the Douglas County Forestry Department are now open. There is more snow in the northern half of the county and varying cover for the rest.  Most trails are in early season riding conditions, so please help us preserve the snow base by riding accordingly.

It is critical that we respect our landowners who allow us to utilize their property for these trails. Please stay on the trail and ride safely.  We will provide updates as conditions change.

BJSC Trail Report 1/04/2021

As expected, the heavy holiday traffic took its toll on our trails. As of 3:00 pm on Sunday, we have had 2140 sleds go past our trail counter.

Despite that, some of our trails are still in rideable condition. Trails 15N, 6E, and 15S were groomed Saturday night and were in decent shape late Sunday afternoon.

While 2W and 8W have developed moguls and are getting thin in the corners, these trails are being groomed this morning and probably will be the last grooming on our trails until we receive more snow.

Please be cautious out there, as you may encounter dirt, gravel, and rocks on our trails as they have been worn down to the base.

Next update will be on Wednesday morning.

Area Report:

We had a great deal of traffic over the weekend but the trails held up ok as we had them groomed but with only so much snow to work with they are getting thin. We will take a look at them today and see if we can keep them open or will have to close them as some of the clubs around have closed there trails. Thank you to all that came out and rode our wonderful trails over the weekend and hope you enjoyed them as our guys had put a lot of time in them marking, smoothing, and grooming. When we get more snow please come up and join us again.                       Thank You                                                                                                                                                                   The Cedarville Snow Travelers

 TRAILS UPDATE
VILAS COUNTY SNOWMOBILE TRAILS OPEN
Trails are in on average Fair Early Riding Condition

Trails are in in Early Riding Condition in Eagle River.  What that means is all sorts of conditions that change quickly. There are areas that are poor.  There is deep frost in the ground covered with ice from the rain we had earlier December.  That’s what is holding what is on the trail.

Riding Friday & Saturday found conditions all over the place. Trails are squirrelly with all the ice underneath.  Crusty rough hard snow along with the ice underneath makes for interesting turning in the corners.  Grit mixed with snow in other areas. And areas with soft snow.  Mostly on the south side ROW trails.  All in all there was enough snow to lubricate.  Had no hyfax heating up.

This next week will see cloudy conditions with daytime temps in the 30’s & teens at night.  Doesn’t look like any SNOW.

Both lake trails, Catfish & Eagle are marked.  Stay by the markers to be safe.

Short report this morning.  If you are riding slow down.

Thanks to the clubs for all their hard work.

Need cold weather & SNOW.  KEEP THINKING COLD & DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!

 TRAILS UPDATE
VILAS COUNTY SNOWMOBILE TRAILS OPEN
Trails are in on average Fair Early Riding Condition

Trails are in in Early Riding Condition.  What that means is all sorts of conditions that change quickly.  Going from Fair to even Excellent up north to Poor and all conditions in between throughout Vilas County.

Many clubs up north in the county have enough snow to groom nightly.  Other clubs in the county are panning & other are grooming off & on. Temps are rising so conditions will go down hill.  Best to check with the area you want to ride for the current conditions.  Chambers.  Snowmobile Clubs.  Friends. All are good sources.

Rode again yesterday, Saturday.  About 120 miles.  Here’s where we rode & what we found:

Headed out on the trails around 11:30am yesterday.  12 degrees when we left.  Left from east of Eagle River.  Took 10 heading west toward Eagle River.  ROW had frozen snow.  Again took spur to Catfish Lake at 12 Pines, which is marked with no slush at all. Off at Braywood Bay.  Road route (10) to Bloom Rd & back on the trail(10).  Frozen solid from Bloom Rd to Loon Lk Rd. Picked up the very smooth grade (10/13) headed north through town.  Much the same as Friday.

Rode north of Eagle River to trail 10W intersection toward the Wisconsin River Bridge.  East side Fair.  Approach to bridge & crossing.  Both side smooth, hard & snow covered.  Beyond the approach on the west side was rough & gritty.

From there picked up 13 heading north.  In the Buckatabon area we took one ways.  There was all sorts of conditions.  All early season & snow covered.  Got better as we rode north as the snow got deeper. Rode that all the way to 8.  Went west.  Fair with grit on the first section.  As we went further west it was better.

Took 8 all the way to 8 & 7 intersection.  Continued on 8 going west heading to Boulder Junction.  That left turn was a great choice.  The entire section of 8 heading due west was excellent riding!  Best all day.  As 8 headed south trail was Fair & snow covered.  In Boulder Junction the back street by pass was snow cover.  Took 15 north for lunch at Gooches.  Back on 15 to Boulder Junction & south on 8 to 15.  Groomers were out.

Rode 15 south to 11.  Back to early riding.  Fair on average.  After crossing county N headed east on 10.  10 was a mixed bag of conditions.  Fair on average with some Poor and some Good.  All snow covered no bare riding but gritty in a few areas.

Rode 10 through St. Germain to Eagle River connect along Hwy 70.  St. Germain was out grooming.  So it was smooth. The hill on 10 across from Wisconsin River was thin which is just what happens there.  Rest was hard snow & had rough sections.

Connected with grade 10/13 in town & home by 10E.  Looked like Eagle River groomers were out.

Catfish Lake is marked.  Word is Eagle is being marked no confirmation.  Will let you know tomorrow.  Either way stay by the barrels.

Thanks to the clubs for all their hard work.

Trail Report – : Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin – January 3, 2021

Reporter:Toulish1

Trail Conditions: Poor

Snow Cover: 2-7″

Date of Report: January 3, 2021

Snowmobile Information:

I did not run a snowmobile patrol due to the thinning conditions. Trail 17 from Lac Du Flambeau to Woodruff has a brown tinge down the middle so I would report what was fair to decent in spots is down to the base now. Weather  channel has Lac Du Flambeau at a 10-20% chance of snow all week, with a burst of optimism at 40% tomorrow, Monday. I will also be joining up with the Northern Hornshoe Snowmobile Club groomer team tomorrow night so my reports will have access not only to riding, but what the groomers are up to. Wolf
