Area Report:

Update: Our trails are in as of this week! Thank you to all of our volunteers that made this happen this fall!   There is snow in the forecast however it is early and there is no frost in the ground!  It looks like there is a lot of uncertainty with this storm this weekend so we will see how much we actually get!   Please check back with us regarding updates.  If anything changes regarding trails opening/closing, conditions, etc. The rule of thumb is the Walworth County Snow Phone is the first and best source for the most accurate report.  If there is not an updated message on the snow phone then trails remain closed!  SNOW PHONE 262-742-2664.  We will also update our website, Facebook page, Snowtracks, and Travel Wisconsin if there is anything to update on.  However the snow phone is the go to first source!  Let’s hope we get a whole bunch of snow and we have something to report back on here!   If not we will update once things change. PLEASE REMEMBER TO STAY OFF CLOSED TRAILS!  If Trails are closed and you are on them you are trespassing.  Check back with one of the sources mentioned for updates.   Happy Holidays! LET IT SNOW!

Time to THINK COLD!
Then start DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE
Trails in Eagle River & All of Vilas County CLOSED

Good morning. Trails are still closed in the Eagle River area & all of Vilas County. Temps still bouncing up & down. 24 overnight with a high of 43. A schiff of SNOW on the ground, which is finally freezing up. So you know what you need to do…….THINK COLD. Getting COLD over night but still getting too warm during the day. Then we can start doing the SNOW DANCE.

Vilas County Forestry, Recreation & Land department trail inspections continue. Don continues his inspections everyday It will take this week & part of next week to complete inspections for all 11 clubs.

Swamps & wet areas are beginning to freeze up but we sure could use some frigid cold weather. Then SNOW!  Right now Vilas county we are still in deer hunts. So the trails cannot open until all hunts are done & SNOW & TRAIL CONDITION PERMIT. The 9 day season is done.  The 10 muzzleloader season ends at dusk today.  Then one more hunt.  The 4 day antlerless hunt which ends on Sunday, December 12.

Trail 13 that heads west of Eagle River has a re route in the section that comes out on Oak Lane by the Pine Gables Restaurant.  There is new construction going on so the club has done a temporary move over of the trail.  The club is working with the Vilas Forestry, Recreation and Land department to complete the permanent re route which will be in place for the 2021-2022 season.  If you are familiar with that trail rather than the 2 corners at the west end by Oak Lane it will go straight ahead.

Also the lake spur off of the Eagle Lake Trail that take you to Eagle Waters Resort is back open!!!  The own Laura Koranda & adjacent landowners worked hard to have this happen!

It won’t be long now!  Can’t wait to see ya all out on the trails!

The flowage will most likely be marked around Christmas, New Years. if you come up early STAY OFF THE WATER it has between 6 inches and open water. Once we get some good snow most of the trails will be ready to go, we will still have to break through the swamps to get them to freeze up good. Will let you know on the snow

Still waiting for more COLD & SNOW

Still waiting for a lot more COLD.  So you know what you need to do…….THINK COLD.  Then we can start doing the SNOW DANCE.  Not much snow on the ground.  Just enough to cover making most areas white.

Vilas County Forestry, Recreation & Land department continue to do trail inspections everyday.   It will take this week & part of next week to complete inspections for all 11 clubs.  As of yesterday 4 clubs were inspected.

Eagle River Sno-Eagles are busy finishing up trail work.  Trailing signing, brushing & doing re routes.  Saw the guys out on Thursday doing a final inspection before the county inspection.

Trail 13 that heads west of Eagle River has a re route in the section that comes out on Oak Lane by the Pine Gables Restaurant.  There is new construction going on so the club has done a temporary move over of the trail.  Trail Boss reports the temporary re route is all ready to. The club is working with the Vilas Forestry, Recreation and Land department to complete the permanent re route which will be in place for the 2021-2022 season.  If you are familiar with that trail rather than the 2 corners at the west end by Oak Lane it will go straight ahead.

There are still many wet mushy areas.  The night time temps are sure helping that.  But it needs to stay in teens or single digits at night to get the trails frozen tight.  During the day it would be great if it would only get into the 20’s during the day.

The lake spur to Eagle Waters Resort, off the main Eagle Lake Trail is back open.  This photo shows where the trail is.  Right now lakes are not even close to be safe.  So stay off.

Right now Vilas county we are still in deer hunts. So the trails cannot open until all hunts are done & SNOW & TRAIL CONDITION PERMIT. The 9 day season ended at dusk last Sunday.  This past Monday the 10 muzzleloader season started.  That ends on December 9.  Then one more hunt.  The 4 day antlerless hunt which ends on Sunday, December 12.

It won’t be long now!  Can’t wait to see ya all out on the trails!
