Trail Report – : Spooner and Washburn County, Wisconsin – January 15, 2026

Reporter:Washburn County

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 6 – 8″ Groomed & Packed

Date of Report: January 15, 2026

Area Report:

With some of the neighboring southern counties closing their snowmobile trails, we will remain open for time being.

At this time ALL Trails in Washburn County are now officially open. With the recent snow accumulations trails are now packed and groomed and now have a sustainable trail base.  Additional snow accumulations have helped the trails out tremendously and grooming reports have been coming in with positive feedback. We have lost some snow with the recent rain and abnormally warm weather, but trails are still in decent shape. All trails across the County are fair in condition.  Remember that grooming and maintenance activities continue throughout the season. Use caution while riding, watch for trail equipment, and enjoy the trails responsibly.  If you encounter any trail issues such as downed trees, limbs, or debris, please report them to Washburn County Forestry at 715-635-4490.

Please be advised that on 1/1/2026 there was an incident on Long Lake, off of the boat landing on Blackhawk Road. The ice conditions at this time are very poor and a snowmobile broke through the ice at this location while out riding. At this time no trail route is marked out on Long Lake. The County does not have jurisdiction on Long Lake and is not responsible for marking out a trail across the lake, even though certain sections of Washburn County Snowmobile trails lead to accessing Long Lake, Washburn County Forestry does not maintain anything past the high ground point. Please use caution if you are out on any lake as they are not yet 100% safe

All in all trails are Great!

Winter continues & the temps have dropped with a schiff(inch or less of new SNOW) again overnight.  More SNOW today, Friday & Saturday. 2-3 inches reported.  On Sunday temps drop to single digits during the day & below zero at night until next Wednesday when they rise into the 10’s.  Then back into the freezer.  SNOW off & on. The COLD temps will make the top SNOW crusty with less lubrication.  The La Nina WINTER is going no where.  So it’s time to ride!

GTS Tracking shows grooming last night.  Here a shot from the GTS app

Green Groomed overnight. Blue Groomed Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Orange groomed Monday night into Tuesday morning.

Couple of notices:

Trail 10/13 aka Wisconsin River Bridge Trail has been reopened.  Riders MUST stay on the trail as off the trail is very soft.  Leaving the trail will result in getting stuck.  Grooming will not resume in this area for several days to allow for the cold weather freeze tight.  EXPECT ROUGH TRAIL CONDITIONS

Reminder that Trail 13S does not run all the way to Three Lakes as a portion was closed.  Club is working on a re route.

Eagle Lake was marked by businesses. Safety lights at entrance & exit from/to the lake trail have been installed.

Catfish Lake is NOT MARKED. Uncertain it will open as there are no businesses open on the lake this winter.

Trails are overall in Fair-Good condition. We had warm temps this week that opened up sections of our swamps. Cold weather is now in effect for the foreseeable future along with fresh snow last night and into the weekend will set up for a great Holiday weekend of riding!

Trails 12, sections of 19 and 19B have not seen a groomer in over a week due to wet swamps opening back up. Everything around swamps has been groomed. Our trail system is now 100% open.

The Turtle Flambeau Flowage and Lake of the Falls have been fully marked, please ride next to the stakes and be careful. Conditions can change rapidly.

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 6-8

Date of Report: January 14, 2026

Area Report:

Groomers have been out early this week when the temps were cold, cleaning up after another great weekend! Yesterday was warm and soft so many stayed off the trails. But today (Wednesday) the temps are back down and will stay down below freezing into next week. Thursday we are forecasted to get about 2-4″ of fresh snow and 1-3″ on Friday. Fingers crossed as that will be a great freshen up on the trails!

Our job is always easy when we can say the trails are in good-great condition and that’s where we are, not much more to say aside from if we get a few inches of fresh snow in the next day or so we will have excellent conditions!
