Trail 17 is still detoured due wet area.  Hopefully the cold temps the past 36 hours will firm it up for the weekend.  The lake trails are marked.  Please stay on the marked trail.  It is the safest way.

Snowmobile Trail Conditions
Fifield Sno Drovers 1/7/2020
All the trails in the Pike Lake area are in great shape with the exception of areas we’re not grooming yet due to water under the snow/ice. These areas are passible via snowmobile but may be a bit rough. This is the stretch of trail 101/10 from where it turns off the long straight-a-way leading to Northernaire/144 to the bridge at Fould’s creek. The trail 106/19 leading to Iron County remains closed until we get word that the Iron County club has been able to open their trail. We understand trail 101/10 is closed just east of Sugarbush Road due to open water in the swamp. The HOPE to reopen it on Thursday, 1/9 given the colder weather. The lakes are still not marked at this point due to slush and questionable ice conditions. While we’re hoping this cold snap improves the condition and we mark them soon, the best option is to stay off them until we’ve determined it is safe and mark them.

Our trails are being groomed twice a week and are in good to excellent condition. We have a few bad spots that you need to take caution. First area is on Trail 80 going east and west. There are open water areas. We are hoping with cold temps that we can address these two areas. Good news is that you are able to sneak around both areas. Second area is on trail 90. Power company is updating power line poles so please drive slow in case they are on the trail.

Northwoods Hi Riders 1/7/2020
We have been grooming the highland areas around Solberg Lake, but still no major swamps. Trail 102 from Phillips to the 121 intersection above Gates Lake towards Wintergreen is groomed and in excellent riding condition. Trail 141 on the east side of Solberg is groomed and in excellent condition, trail 141 to Lugerville is partially groomed, and very rideable. Trail 112 out of Solberg Park is groomed, but there are logging operations going on along that trail. Trail 121 north of Solberg to Hick’s Landing area is NOT groomed due to the 2 major swamps on that trail, plus there are logging operations on each side of the swamps. Trails 121 going to Lugerville is not groomed east of Old 13 Road due to 2 swamps that are still not in condition to be groomed, but they are getting closer. You can ride the swamps with snowmobiles to get them packed down so they freeze, they are just a little choppy. Stay to the outside. Watch for small branches sticking into the trails. Solberg Lake is not marked as of yet, but maybe this weekend if it stays cold.

Prentice Bushbenders 1/7/2020
We have started grooming operations again and hope to have all trails that we can get to done by Wednesday night. The trails that have been groomed are in great condition. Areas that cannot be groomed yet because the swamps/creeks have not yet frozen down enough to get the groomer through are as follows; Trails 181 and 102 West and North of intersection 108. Trail 116 between County Road K and intersection 97a. Trail 120 North of Windy Lane. Trail 120 South of intersection 108 to the first gate. Trail 189 between Trail 102 (the Pine Line trail) and the Prentice Ogema Road. All trails are passable by snowmobile but the worst area are the 2 creeks North of Windy Lane. We are working on these areas daily and hope to be able to groom them within a week. Please ride safe and have fun.

Also it can not be stressed enough to only ride on marked trails. There were 2 fatalities this last weekend on Lake Nokomis when snowmobiles went through the ice.

Sno-Gypsies
1-6-20 The Tuscobia and Trail 80 were groomed yesterday. Today 80N, 89, 90 and 91 were done. Trail 91 west of Butternut lake was partially done but due to some open swamp it was not completed. If anyone feels adventurous you can ride it and open it up.

Lincoln county Zone 1 is open with the exception of Corr. 17 south of Hwy 51 Park and Ride and Corr. 19 south of Hwy. 86. Still working on getting these trails opened. Other trails have improved a lot in the last week, ranging from good to very good. Lake Alice and Silver Lake have been marked, but you MUST stay on marked trail.

Lake Mohawksin has NOT been marked yet. STAY OFF LAKE MOHAWKSIN!!

Oneida county trails are open except LAKES. Lake trails are closed.

TEMPORARY TRAIL CLOSURE – Trail 51 B north of Hwy K and south of Rocky Run Road will be closed Thursday Jan 9 and Fri Jan 10 due to utility work being done in the area.

Be careful.  With the rain and warm weather there was a lot of water on the trails.   The 8 E trail heading towards Jenny Lake Rd (8E & Bearskin intersection) is closed also until we can get through the creek just off Jenny Lake Rd.

Groomers are out  where possible.  We have to go around swamps as they are not frozen yet.  Trail conditions should be improving daily as we get them packed.  In some areas we are starting over again to get trails open.

PLEASE STAY OFF OF THE WATER

Cross Country Cruisers Trail Report 01/07/2029
Hi everyone from the Northwoods!
The Cruiser Trails are in fantastic shape except for in the swampy areas which need to be packed down some more, so be aware!
Even though the Cruisers do not mark the lakes we have been informed by Greg from Slo’s that Big Arbor Vitae has 11-12 inches of ice BY THE MARKERS!
Little Arbor Vitae Lake was marked this weekend and again STAY BY THE MARKERS!
Going away from the markers could cause another tragedy like what occurred on Lake Nokomis, which I’m sure you’ve heard about.
Crossing the lakes are at your own risk!
The logging operations continue and the map we posted earlier with closures east of Hwy 51 still are in place. Trail 3/6 at 17 are closed and you cannot ride 6 to Sayner without taking a longer route. Trail 17 east of Hwy 51 up until trail 3/6 are shared with loggers. Watch out for trucks.
The Bearskin Trail has a detour south of Minocqua with signs out. Pay attention and follow the detours!

STAY ON MARKED TRAILS!

Have fun and ride right, safe and smart!

Trail Conditions: OPEN ~ Fair

Took a ride Mon up to Yukon 51, NO water on trail 8 between MW and Lazy Ace (a bit bumpy but I’m sure they will be able to groom that soon) the grade (#17) was in Awesome shape! Hats off to Mercer Sno Goers & White Thunder Riders for keeping that in such great shape! We continue to hear great things about all the other Vilas clubs. Our trails are in fair condition. They will be upgraded by the weekend. Trail #2 & #8 are actually in good to very good condition. I rate fair overall because we still have a bumpy section connecting 6 to trail 2 but that will be groomed tonight. Trail 6 remains closed (you can ride the shoulder of Hwy W to access Winchester PI trails but PLEASE USE CAUTION). We will attempt to open trail 6 from the Jct of 2 and 6 by the weekend so stay tuned.
We had a very productive club meeting last night and are gearing up for our fundraisers.
REMEMBER THIS: ALL OF OUR GROOMERS ARE VOLUNTEERS. THEY SQUEEZE IN VOLUNTEER HOURS BETWEEN WORKING FULL-TIME JOBS. Most of us ride far less than you do, please remember that before you complain about conditions, we along with all other clubs, are busting butt to make your ride enjoyable.

Remember to use your hand signals, stay on marked trails, respect the deer on the trails AND STAY OFF OF THE LAKES THEY ARE NOT SAFE.

Trail report for January 8, 2020 – Trails remain good. The weather the last few days has cooled down and last night throughout this morning has been in the single digits. This has kept our trails from melting. It snowed last night and looked like it was coming down pretty good while we were grooming but turned out to be just a dusting. There are warmer temps expected later this week and maybe a small wintery mix for Thursday. There is no significant amount of snowfall soon. The snow is starting to wear out on the trails and getting thin in areas but is still turning out flat when groomed. At least with the lack of snow on the trail it does not create big bumps. Please use extreme caution in all areas! Stay on marked trails! Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.
