Trail report for December 25, 2019 – Overall good for early season riding. We have had a lot of traffic on our trails during this holiday season. Our groomers have been out Christmas eve and Christmas day working to make the trails better for you. A big Thank You goes out to them for their outstanding work. The trails are starting to get some moisture and are beginning to pack down with the warmer temps, but we really need some subzero temps to stiffen them up and make them solid. The forecast is not in our favor and looks like we will have continued warm weather in the 30’s for the next few days. Pray for snow and cold weather. Please use extreme caution in all areas! Stay on marked trails!  Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride. Merry Christmas to everyone!

Ashland County Snowmobile Report December 26, 2019
Ashland County trails are reported at this time in poor condition.  The groomers are still trying to get through the trails.  Down trees, deep snow and the warm temps are making this difficult.  Be cautious in the swampy areas for standing water.  Please bear with us and STAY ON THE TRAILS.  Be respectful of the farmers land! Stay on trail, as much of the Ashland County snowmobile trail system uses private property and could be lost if the property owners experiences issues. The most common complaints are snowmobiles not staying on trails or going off into fields that are not part of the trail, and loud noise from non-stock muffler systems. Respect the trail system so that it remains open. The Tri-county corridor is open.  Click here for Bayfield County Trail conditions.  .

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: Looking White

Date of Report: December 26, 2019

Area Report:

The trails will be getting busier beginning today so the end of this warmer dreary weather will be welcomed. Trails are holding up well and there is snow? in the forecast. We would be happy with colder nights at least to allow our grooming operations to hold up longer. Looking good for now and it could get even better if Mother Nature cooperates.

Merry Christmas! A great day to ride the Land O Lakes trails as they are in good to excellent condition. Trail boss Rob and the groomers have done an EXCELLENT job with the Land O Lakes trails.

Light traffic today with temps in the low 30’s make for an enjoyable time to get outside and enjoy. The traffic is coming soon and possibly some fresh snow. Looks like a good Christmas/New Years week.

Trail Report – : Keweenaw Peninsula / Houghton-Hancock, South Range, Copper Harbor, Michigan – December 24, 2019

Reporter:tpeters

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 18″ to 30″

Date of Report: December 24, 2019

Area Report:

Merry Christmas to everyone.  Trails in the Houghton/Hancock/Keweenaw are still in good shape, even with the warm weather.  We had a ton of snow before the warm weather, so we have lost some snow, but the base is there and packed and the groomers are still out on all trails.  Of course, there will be some moguls where there has been a lot of traffic.  It is thin along some of the lakeshore in the Keweenaw Peninsula.    The mat and snow are down under the bridge, do not cross on the canal.  It is not safe anywhere.  There is a reroute on Trail 133 around the stamp sands in Gay that is open and the Mandan Trail portion of Trail 134 is now open.  Trail 3 from Dollar Bay to Lake Linden and the entire Freda Loop (Trails 120 & 121) will be closed the whole season for repair.  Nights are cool and trails that are soft during the day, are setting up nice at night.  Watch the corners in case of some ice.  Look forward to seeing everyone out on the trails!!

Please stay off all ice in the area, none of it is safe.  Respect others on the trails and private property.  Don’t be the idiots that ruin it for the others.  Slow down, there is no reason to be going 100.  Save the drinking for after the riding.  Stay safe!

We rode Sunday heading out around 11am heading east from Nobbe’s North on Trail 10E.  All of Trail 10E in Eagle River & Three Lake/Brule Trails were very good to excellent.  From the Trail 10E/6W connect trail were rough in spots.  Parts are groomed frozen slush areas not groomed.   Took 6 to Trail 17 connect. Trail 17 heading south saw grooming in highland areas only. Manske Swamp aka 3N was not groomed but not bad. Mostly frozen slush. Trail 13 heading toward Eagle River was good into town.  In town trails snow covered & good.  Trail 70W groomed to Lincoln Town Hall.  From there rough (frozen slush areas) until coming out by the hair salon.  Good all the way to the 70W/17S intersection.  Trail 17S is Fair until the section that runs along Hwy 17S.  First section has had some grooming.  From Trail 17S/7 intersection heading south trail is very rough. Trail 3S/Alt13 was very good all the way to the 10E turn off.  Section from Loon Lk Rd to Bloom Rd rough.  10E all the way home was good to very good.  Sure there is a downgrade as of today.
