I think the Frosty Club is done grooming for this epic season—unless we get some snow or the predicted warm sunny days do not materialize. Thanks everyone for a great season!

Still good riding to be found for the next few days but 50’s by the weekend will make things pretty marginal.

Snowmobile Information:

The Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters snowmobile club was founded in 1968 and is one of the oldest snowmobile clubs in existence today in Wisconsin. Located in the very northwest corner of Vilas county, Manitowish Waters borders the Lake Superior snow-belt country. With average snowfalls of 150 inches and over 25 miles of professionally groomed trails, the area is one of Vilas County’s top winter vacation areas.

The Manitowish Waters trail system is a unique hub network directly linking into 5 other trail systems. With Minocqua/Woodruff to our south, St. Germain/Eagle River to our southeast, Lake Gogebic to our north, Presque Isle/Winchester to our northeast, Mercer and Hurley to our northwest and Lac du Flambeau/Price County to our west, our area residents and guests can choose from a variety of daily or overnight destinations for scenic riding with excellent pit stops along the way.

The Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters maintain an active grooming schedule for the area’s trail system. Coordinated efforts with the surrounding communities provide continuous smoothly-groomed trails in this northwest sector. The Sno-Skeeters own and operate some of the newest grooming equipment on the market today. Support the club by attending their special events or contributing to the “trail pigs” at local establishments along the trails. Or show your support by becoming a member!

Enjoy, and please ride responsibly and safely!

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 25-35 inches

Date of Report: March 18, 2019

Area Report:

Trail report for March 18, 2019– Trails are good to fair. It is currently about 2 deg above zero. We were out grooming last night and early this morning. The trails turned out surprisingly good. There was very little traffic and with the cold weather over night the trails set up very nice. There are some puddles and the inside corners are wearing out in some areas. Road crossings and road routes are getting bare. With less control with your machines in these areas please use caution. The midday temps are expected to increase throughout the week and weekend. If you still want a good ride the time to get out is NOW! With anticipated low traffic and partly overcast skies the trails should hold up for a few days. High temps towards the weekend could be in the 50’s. OUCH! Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

Snowmobile Trail Report:

Red Arrow Snowmobile Club (Townsend): 3/16/19

It’s 15 degrees in beautiful downtown Townsend this morning. If you do venture out, beware there is 2′-3′ of water across the grade across the street from the Shell Station. These are unpredictable riding conditions. We will need to assess how much flooding has occurred. Grooming operations have ceased at least until further notice!! We have a very thick base on the trails. The long range forecast doesn’t look good though.

Paul Bunyan Snowmobile Club (Lakewood): 3/16/19

The trails were groomed last night. Ride this weekend because the weather forecast is for very warm temperatures by next weekend. Ride safe.

Chute Pond Snowmobile Club (Suring/Mountain) – 3/17/19

Chute Pond Trails are open, in late season condition. There may be some bare spots, some standing water, and some icy areas. There is no grooming scheduled at this time. Please stay on the trails, and ride with extra caution.

The rest of the Oconto County Snowmobile Trails are CLOSED.

EAGLE RIVERS  TRAILS
On average FAIR – POOR sections in town
Trail 10W/13N aka Wisconsin River Bridge trail is
CLOSED FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON

March 18 2019 6:43am – 11 – High 37

Another weekend in the books with really good riding!  This week temps during the day will be in the 40’s with 20’s at night.  There is still plenty of snow to ride but as the week continues conditions will change quickly.  Very slight chance of SNOW on Wednesday.

No grooming overnight.

As reported in town trails have degraded.  Here are some better riding areas.

The grade south to the 10E intersection.  Past the 10E intersection road sections bare & mush & water in some places.

Out east on 10E starting where the one way starts at the ERRA Sports Arena & east.  There are some corners that were exposed to sun that are icy & yes the road trail section out in the Anvil Lake area that are bare. Also thin on the north side of the trail heading west across the road from Catfish Lake Rd under the big pines. Consider trailering to the Sports Arena parking lot & riding from there.

Heading north on 3/13. This as you leave town.  At the intersection take 3 north.  10W/13N is closed.

In the morning all trails crusty & icy.  As the day goes on the SNOW softens up. Plenty of SNOW to lubricate.

These important updates continue:

There is 1 logging operations going on where there is a need to use parts of the trails. Trail 13N by Deep Lake Rd. Plus utility work on 7 near Sugar Camp on the high line.

Even with the warm up there are snowbanks at driveway crossings & road crossings.  Road crews are still out off & on winging road banks.  There are some parts of trails that run along highways that could be have chunky snow on them from the road clearings.  10E is one.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. Lots of slush so for the more experienced rider at this point.

The 2 one-way trail areas are 10E from the ERRA Sports Arena all the way out to Nicolet Mini Mart.  The other is the 13’s up near Buckatabon Bridge & Bauer’s Dam area.  Please be aware that for now signs will be buried in many locations.  PLEASE BE SURE TO CHECK A MAP SO YOU KNOW THE LOCATION OF THESE TRAILS.

Trails can & will remain open until midnight March 31 snow & conditions permitting.  Think we will make it?

Snow Cover: 35″

Date of Report: March 16, 2019

We received 3-6 inches of new snow.❄️ Groomers reported after their run yesterday the trails are in excellent condition, all trails were groomed. The ?waterhole on Trail #2 27 miles west of Watersmeet is starting to open up again so use caution. ⚠️ It’s just smart to ride with caution this time of the year anyway, you never know what’s around the next curve or how the same trail could have changed on your way back!! Groomers will be running today/tonight and will continue to groom daily as the temperatures allow. Looks like we’ll be in the 40’s by Wednesday.
