Snowmobile report

We received about 12-18″ of new snow over the past several days. Our temps for today and tomorrow will be mild but on Wednesday our temps our going to drop. Temps will be in the teens and single digits so our trails should stay in great shape.

The Gogebic Trail Authority reported trails were last groomed 1/12/19. Trail 2 from Hurley to Ramsay Crossing is very good. Trail 2 from Ramsay Crossing to Wakefield was last groomed 1/12/19 is good to fair and is icy; conditions can change quickly on this trail. Wakefield to Marenisco is good to very good. There is logging 3 miles east of Wakefield use caution. Logging trucks have the right away so please give them the right of way.

Trail 8 from Bingos to Tula Crossing is good to very good it was last groomed 1/12/19. Bingo’s is closed and has no gas….

Trail 160 is good; last groomed 1/10/19 the first 10 miles still have some spots where we need more snow to bury some rocks. The next 13 miles is good to very good. The final 2 miles near Lake Superior/Saxon Harbor/WI Trail 13 is thin. This trail has several scenic vistas with amazing views.

Trail 11S is open but ride with caution- it is in good condition. It was lasted groomed on the 10th but the last 3 miles is not being groomed due to water hazards. Area Report:

Trail report for January 14, 2019 – Trails are overall good with some areas just fair. Over the weekend there was heavy traffic. We were out grooming but with warmer temps the soft snow over our base does not stiffen up and the sleds blow all the snow out of the corners. The groomers grab the snow and put it back into the trail but the next couple of sleds blow it back out again since the snow is soft and sugary. The snow is just wearing out. We need colder temps and more fresh snow. We are expected to get colder temps starting mid-week and through the weekend but not much snow. Hopefully we will get some lake effect snow from the cold temps. We still don’t have enough snow to fill in the ruts and bare spots in some areas. In other areas it’s nice and flat with great riding. Please use caution with the icy bare spots and corners. Our Groomers will be out tonight and tomorrow morning to do the best they can do. We just got to roll with the punches that Mother Nature gives us. Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 4-6″ with a hard base

Date of Report: January 14, 2019

Area Report:

The trails look to have have held up way better than expected this weekend.  The groomers were out in full force this weekend and report them in fair shape.  There are some spots that are good.  The flat, fairly straight areas are in good shape.  There are few spots that are fair.  The fields have spots that are wind blown with dirt showing through.  The by-pass trail is rideable but thin.  The groomers can’t do much with it until more snow is available.  The Enterprise trail (15/17 south) has two sections of logging, where they have plowed the trail down to dirt – ugh.

If it weren’t for these areas, we could call them “good”.  There is a hard base, and the corners could become a little icy, so be safe out there.

There is good riding out there.   Enjoy!!

Please stay on marked trails only.  The lakes have all been marked and are good to cross where identified.

VILAS COUNTY TRAILS TO INCLUDE SNO-EAGLES TRAILS ARE OPEN!
Still Early Season Riding & FAIR to GOOD
Need SNOW

January 14, 2019 6:20am – 24 degrees – High of 30

Trails in Sno-Eagles Country are in need of new SNOW.  Snow cover pretty good but a lot is hard & fatigued out.  Groomers were out again last night.

Heavy traffic everywhere this past weekend.  In town trails are still snow covered but need new snow. The grade heading into town & heading south toward Three Lakes is good. Not sure as you ride further down in the area where you cross a mini swamp.  Thinking that is hard & icy.  Crusty hard snow in a lot of places.

10E after you come off the grade & head east is pretty snirty in a lot of spots until to get to Bloom Rd to the roads that take you to the one-ways near the Sports Arena.  Same heading west on 70/7 the beginning section where you cross the road near the Lincoln Town Hall until you get out a bit. Trail 17N from the Hwy 45 crossing toward Trail 1 is snirty at the beginning.  As you get in further it is much better.

Far north, west, east in the woods are best riding.  Take a pop up to Bauer’s Dam for some Damn Good Chicken Soup!

Road crossings are snirty from road sand & where there are icy inclines.

Manski Swamp (Trail 3) north of town & Wisconsin River Bridge area (10/13) are icy but no slush.

Sno-Eagles Country has 2 areas that have one-way trails.  10E is a one-way trail from the ERRA Sports Arena all the way out to Nicolet Mini Mart.  The other is the 13’s up near Buckatabon Bridge & Bauer’s Dam area.  Clearly marked with DO NOT ENTER signs.  Plus trail signs are backwards if you are going the wrong way.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. Stay by the reflective orange barrels.  Do not drift away from the barrels as it is not safe to do so.  Remember not all lakes have trails so if you don’t see marker do not ride on it to be safe.  These are the only 2 lakes that are marked in Sno-Eagles Country.  No other lake trails.

Also there is a dusk to dawn speed limit of 55 MPH.

VILAS COUNTY TRAILS TO INCLUDE SNO-EAGLES TRAILS ARE OPEN!
Still Early Season Riding with GOOD to FAIR conditions

January 12, 2019 7:48am – 20 degrees – High of 24

On average the trails are in GOOD conditions.  Still ranking Early Season until the SNOW gets deeper.  Heavy traffic.  Groomers were out last night.

There is ice under the SNOW on the trails not just in the corners.  At road crossings saw some areas with snirt.  The roads are sanded & sleds carry that sand up onto the trail for a short distance. Have reports of a bumpy rough areas.  When the temps dropped into the single digits bumps can set & it takes a extra work to get smoothed out. Base is good but need deep SNOW to do a good job of cutting.

Heavy traffic areas like in towns are pretty good too, especially the grade heading into town. Lots of woods & the SNOW didn’t get in there so it fatigued out quicker.  Haven’t been up north in Sno-Eagles Country so not sure what’s up there.

No Lake Effect Snow yesterday & only 10-20% for today.  It will be cloudy for the next week.  Terrific for the trails. Also going to be single digit cold at night except Monday.  On Monday temps will pop up to 30 during the day & 21 at night.  That could mean some SNOW.  START DANCIN’
