With little or no new snow things have not changed much.
Wed. was sunny and warm which we didn’t need,but trails
are still on the plus side of good.Road routes are getting
thin and corners are icy.Snow is in the forcast starting
Sunday with 3″or more that will help much.

Hi All…We did survive those two warm days. I’m calling the trail Fair to Good condition. Some of the approaches are dirt, but frozen dirt. There are definitely some thin and snirty areas, but all is frozen and very ridable. The weather channel is calling for snow on Sunday into Monday. We do need it.

Temps for the next few days will be in the 20’s with lows in the low teens to single digits. Grooming is ongoing for all clubs weather permitting. Use caution on corners they may be icy. Make sure you ride on your side of the trail, we want everyone to be safe.
PLEASE STAY ON TRAILS. WE HAVE BEEN GETTING COMPLAINTS THAT SOME HAVE NOT BEEN STAYING ON TRAILS, RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN LOSE EASEMENT FOR OUR TRAIL SYSTEM SO PLEASE STAY ON TRAILS!!!!!!
THE GOGEBIC RANGE TRAIL AUTHORITY REPORTS:
We are grooming nearly non-stop hitting most trails at least once a day. We have one groomer down for repairs. Thankfully, the cold temps are helping to keep the snow from moving too much. Overall trail conditions are very good, lots of snow on the trails. Beware of icy corners and icy entrance/exits to corners.
Trail 2 from Hurley to Ramsay US-2 Crossing is good to very good. As you depart Ironwood past Walmart, heading east, the horseshoe-turns around the Transfer Station are getting icy. Please ride to the right and ride cautiously.
The rail-bed trail ENDS on the east side of the Keystone Bridge. The club grooms the bridge to maintain it for local access. The “old” trail to Wakefield is closed east of Verona Road. Tickets will be issued if you ride on this closed trail.
Trail 2 from Ramsay Crossing to Wakefield is fair. Around Indianhead near Wakefield the trail is getting thin, snirty and icy so please use caution. There have been several near-miss accidents due to riders not riding on their side of the trail or blowing through icy corners. We need everyone to ride safely through there at a reasonable speed to keep everyone safe. The hill climbs to Indianhead Big Snow Resorts are snow packed and smooth.
Trail 2 from Wakefield to Marenisco is good to very good. There is active construction 5 miles east of Wakefield use caution. Watch for icy corners from Wakefield to US HWY. 2 trail crossing. The rail bed section is in great condition. Snow depth will diminish slightly as you travel from Wakefield to Marenisco, mainly from 11S intersection east.
Trail 8 from Bingo’s to Tula Crossing is good to very good. The trail has lots of snow on it and is a wide seasonal county road that is not plowed and makes for a fun trail ride.
Trail 160 from Walmart to Montreal River(WI) is good to very good. This is a very scenic trail with spectacular views. ENJOY!! There is logging near the Lake Road area, please slow down, remember logging trucks have the right of way.
Trail 11S is good to very good. The first 2 miles of the trail as it heads south towards Wisconsin from Trail 2 is plowed due to logging. Please yield to all commercial truck traffic. The trail is in great shape and is groomed from the Vilas County Wisconsin Line to Trail 2 completely, regularly. There are still a few thin areas and areas that need more brushing but the trail is fantastic.
LAKE GOGEBIC AREA GROOMER REPORT
Trail Conditions:
All trails are reported to be in good to the very good condition. Groomers are out daily.
Trail 1 N to White Pine is in good condition.
Trail 8 East is fair to good to Ewen, after that, it is in rough shape.
Trail 102 is good to very good
Trail 13 N is good in the a.m. and rough in the afternoon.
Trail 13 S from root cellar to Trail 2 is very good.
Trail 100 at the south end of the Lake from Trail 13 to the Slate River is in good condition.
Trail 1 from Marenisco to West Shore will be groomed and should be in good condition.
The weekend is here and it’s once again – very busy. Riders are being ticketed on M-28, as well as the railroad grade along the North Shore of Lake Gogebic. If it’s not a trail – don’t ride there.
U.P. THUNDER RIDERS OF WATERSMEET GROOMERS REPORT:
Trails are good. We do have some thin areas and icy corners so use caution. The groomers are running daily. Lots of thumbs up from riders so the trails must be riding well!
Trail 2 east of Watersmeet – to the 107 – good but thin in areas
Trail 3 south of Watersmeet to WI – good -this trail gets tons of traffic and it gets rough between groomings to use caution over the bridges
Trail 3 north of trail 2 to bond falls – good with icy corners
Trail 3 north of Bond falls – good with icy corners
Trail 2 west of Watersmeet- good
Trail 13 south of trail 2 – good with icy corners
PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN THE CLUB LOSING EASEMENT OF THAT TRAIL AND YOU POSSIBLE GETTING A TICKET…..

We are grooming nightly. Leo / Byron were grooming last night/this morning. 40 deg. temperatures…did not help. Conditions vary from very good – poor. see Cory’s detailed report from yesterday @ https://www.facebook.com/SnoBunniesSnowmobileClub. Logging operations ongoing west of the intersection of Trail 14 & Cty. W. Rainbow Creek culvert on 11(Hwy. O) requires attention when crossing. When exiting to the U.P. on 11,… follow the new signs.
Snow is forecast for Sunday-Tuesday! Fingers crossed
Be careful out there.

It cooled off over night and now we have a high of 19 today (2-16-18). Our trails are fair with some good in the woods. We have snow in the forecast Saturday-Tuesday. We still have good coverage and continue to groom. There is good riding to be found and with cooler temperatures and snow in the forecast, our trails should be just fine. The corners are getting a little slick so please use caution.

Sno-Skeeter Snowmobile Winter Rendezvous

Location: Rest Lake Park – Hwy W
The area’s biggest ice fishing contest with prizes awarded in 8 categories, sponsored by the Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters Snowmobile Club. Ice fishing contest runs from 10:30am until 5:30pm, with more chances to win raffle prizes if you pre-register at Townline Sports or Lakeland True Value. Tent opens at 9:30am for registration. Opening ceremony begins at 10am. Ice fishing awards at 6pm. This family event has activities for all: kid’s games, free groomer rides, racing and photos with the “Famous Klements Racing Sausages” and live music.
Food and refreshments are served in a 40’ x 40’ heated tent and raffle items including: ice auger, ice shack, generator, snowmobile and many more items.
Stay for the event’s finale – spectacular fireworks over frozen Rest Lake.
Dress accordingly, this event is held on Rest Lake just off of Rest Lake Park’s boat landing on Hwy W, 1/4 mile north of Manitowish Waters. Parking is available in the Rest Lake Parking Lot.
Snowmobile Information:
The Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters snowmobile club was founded in 1968 and is one of the oldest snowmobile clubs in existence today in Wisconsin. Located in the very northwest corner of Vilas county, Manitowish Waters borders the Lake Superior snow-belt country. With average snowfalls of 150 inches and over 25 miles of professionally groomed trails, the area is one of Vilas County’s top winter vacation areas.
The Manitowish Waters trail system is a unique hub network directly linking into 5 other trail systems. With Minocqua/Woodruff to our south, St. Germain/Eagle River to our southeast, Lake Gogebic to our north, Presque Isle/Winchester to our northeast, Mercer and Hurley to our northwest and Lac du Flambeau/Price County to our west, our area residents and guests can choose from a variety of daily or overnight destinations for scenic riding with excellent pit stops along the way.
The Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters maintain an active grooming schedule for the area’s trail system. Coordinated efforts with the surrounding communities provide continuous smoothly-groomed trails in this northwest sector. The Sno-Skeeters own and operate some of the newest grooming equipment on the market today. Even with a little warm up on Wednesday, trails continue to be in good condition. There are logging operations on trail 13 off E. Buckatabon Rd. Corners are icy and some road crossings and road routes are a little thin. Some slush is showing up on some of the lakes so stay near the markers. Should be a busy traffic weekend so ride right, ride safe and keep the track side down.

We have a newly-plowed parking area at the beginning of Trail #8 under the International Bridge, which now has an all-season porta-john.
If you are staying in the Sault, please look at our list of supporters on our web page and give them your business. Please do that in all towns you visit. The grooming entities are all made up of volunteers who want you to support those who support us!
Remember, trail base is the amount of snow between your track and the ground below not the amount of fluff piled up in the woods. 10 inches of snow compresses to less than an inch on the trail.
Sault Ste. Marie to Brimley, Trail #8 –
Base 3 – 5 inches -Trail is in excellent to outstanding condition.
Brimley to Raco, Trail #8 –
Base 3 – 6 inches -Trail is in excellent to outstanding condition.
When going across the bridge in Brimley, make sure you go with the flow of traffic! Blowing and drifting occurs when you first leave Brimley.
Raco to Naomikong Trail #8 [where Paradise meets us], Trail #8 –
Base 4 – 7 inches – Trail is in excellent condition.
Sault Ste. Marie City Trail, Trails #497, #449, parts of #8 & #49 –
Base 3 – 5 inches – Trail is in good to excellent condition. Trail is now groomed past casino down to the Antlers.
We now have a marked trail going to Chippewa Motors. It starts once you come out of the woods east of M-129 off #449. It comes into their parking lot from behind if you need parts or service.
City curfew is from 1 am – 6 am. Remember, most City streets are open to traffic 20 mph, stop at all intersections, and ride on the right-hand side of street not on sidewalks. Watch for closed streets that are posted, mainly around the hospital, university, and state trunk lines.
Sault Ste. Marie to Kinross, Trail #49 –
Base 2 – 5 inches – Trail is in good to excellent condition.
Make sure you follow the reroute once you cross bridge going south at 7 Mile Road.
When the trail is running along roads make sure you go with the flow of traffic on the right side of the road.
Kinross loop & south to Pickford, Parts of Trail #49, #472, and #494 –
Base 3- 5 inches – Trail is in good to excellent condition. Watch for trucks on trail.
Kinross to Raco & Rudyard, Parts of trail #472 & #480 –
Base 2 – 6 inches – Trail is in good to excellent condition. Watch for reroute signs just west of Kinross. The trail to Rudyard has been groomed, but logging is going on, too.
The Downtown Trail is signed and snow and barrels are on the Portage Ave. Bridge.

Trail report for February 16, 2018, Fair to poor condition. Over the last two days our trails have degraded rapidly. The temps in the 40’s on Wednesday were really bad for the trails. In the open areas it is getting brown and bare. We are expected to have a high volume of traffic over the weekend and no significant amount of snow in the forecast until the end of the weekend. The only good thing is that the temps are going to get a little colder. The corners are very bare and icy and active logging areas have very little snow. Our groomers will be out to do the best that they can do. With the heavy volume of traffic on the trail please use caution. Don’t forget our fundraiser breakfast at Headwaters this Sunday. It’s a great meal and your supporting our snowmobile club too. Come out and join us! Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride!
