Our trails are in good to very good condition right now, 30s for temps this weekend but cloudy, Looks like we might get a big storm Sunday and Monday so keep your eyes on the weather. Groomers are doing a great job at keeping our trails flat, watch for icy corners and logging areas, lakes are smooth and marked

Trail Report – : Oconto County, Wisconsin – January 18, 2018

Reporter:Oconto County Tourism

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 5-7

Date of Report: January 18, 2018

Area Report:

Red Arrow Townsend – Trails are OPEN. The trails are in “GOOD TO FAIR” condition this morning. We received 2″-3″ of fresh snow from the storm. The groomers were out last night and that is their assessment. They were able to fill most of the holes and at least cover the rocks. The Nicolet is covered for now, let’s see how she holds up? It’s -1 degrees this morning so the trails should have froze down hard and should hold up well today.

Paul Bunyan Riders – Trails are open. The groomers are back in and Trail Boss Jack Bailey said the trails that didn’t have big ruts groomed out very well. Some areas could only be panned. We rate them fair to good with the NST (rail road grade ) as very smooth at this time with little stones showing. The upcoming warm weather is not good for the marginal base we have. There is another storm on the way Sunday & Monday so all we can do is cross our fingers. Remember these are still early season snow conditions.

Chute Pond Snowmobile Club – Our trails are currently OPEN and in poor “Early Season Condition”. We got an inch or two of fluffy snow last night and today. Our trails are thin, hard, and icy in most areas now, with a couple inches of loose snow on top. Our groomers are out working to pack the new couple inches of snow down onto the trails, but they’re reporting it’s still pretty rough out there. The rain last week deteriorated our thin trail base and there are many sections with exposed gravel and/or rocks.

Riding is not recommended until we get more snow. We need snow to make the trails rideable again.

Ride at your own risk, and use extra caution- especially in these areas:

The section of trail north of Hwy W up to Mountain Lakes Rd near the Big Y (INT 320).

Watch for logging on the 18 Corridor trail west of Hwy 32.

The wooded trail from INT 455 to INT 472 (Old 64).

The pipeline trail from Jack Pine north to INT 447 is rough, but the pipeline trail from INT 447 north to Crooked Lake should be avoided- it is ungroomed and extremely rough.

The wooded trail between INT 453 behind the Junction east to Jack Pine Rd.

The 18 Corridor trail near Crooked Lake.

Expect some dips, rocks, branches, ruts, and bare spots. Low areas that froze may be icy under a thin layer of snow- and also may have rough broken up ice/dirt in the area. We are not grooming at this time- we desperately need more snow for conditions to improve . Slow down and use extra caution if you choose to ride. Always use caution riding on any lake or river. Ice conditions can be unpredictable and can vary greatly from lake to lake- or from one end of a lake to the other.

Bagley & Brazeau – Our trails did receive about 4″ of snow. The groomers were out Tuesday & Wednesday. The conditions are fair on most of the trails and good in some spots. If the weather conditions for the weekend get warm, this could impact the trails quickly. If anyone had ridden the trails two weeks ago the conditions as of now have improved somewhat from that time.

Gillett Sno ATV Riders – Trails are OPEN. Trails are in fair to poor condition and groomed. Corridor 7 heading south out of Gillett to Shawano will be closed until we get more snow. Remember early season conditions exist.

Oconto Falls Sno Jokers – Trails are CLOSED.

Lena – Trails are CLOSED.

Chase Sno-Chasers – Trails are CLOSED.

Trail Report – : Bayfield County, Wisconsin – January 18, 2018

Reporter:BayfieldCounty

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 6-12 inch base

Date of Report: January 18, 2018

Area Report:

The whole county received some much welcomed snow earlier this week! Our groomers are out there getting our trails in great shape. Detailed reports from snowmobile club trail reporters are posted below. Stay safe and stay on the trails!

Namakagon Trail Groomers: All trails had been groomed prior to the new snow. The system is in Great shape!! With the new snow of 5-8 in. they will get even better! We have a base of 5-8 in. Namakagon Trail Groomers will be out laying down the new snow and getting the trails tip top before the weekend. We do have a couple areas that are going continue to be of concerns. One being Trail 90 at Old Grade and Federal roads. Heavy logging traffic. They are running trucks in and out Old Grade and Federal rd. Both roads are marked as detour for trail 90 however the town had to plow down so the trucks can meet each other. Another area of caution is trail 15 north of Club Lake Rd. Water from a spring continues to weep out of the hillside where the trail had to be rebuilt last year causing ICE down and across the trail!  As always watch for Groomers and ride safe!

Drummond Snojacks: All trails are in very good condition with a 4″ to 6″ base after early week new snowfall amounts of 8″ to 10″. All trails are being groomed and work will continue up until the weekend. Trails should hold up through the warmer temps forecast for the weekend with more snow expected early next week.

Barnes Barnestormers: With the additional snow we received we are receiving reports from riders that the trails are in great shape, all of our trails are groomed with grooming operations continuing through Thursday.  Dozing, brushing and grooming operations will continue through Thursday on 31S,  use caution if traveling in that directions.  Ride safe!

Bayfield County Snowmobile Alliance – Iron River Area: All area trails will have had at least one pass since latest snowfall by daylight Thursday, 1/18/18, including the Tri County Corridor. Depending on weather conditions operations will continue throughout the weekend only during nighttime hours to avoid groomer/snowmobile conflicts.

Washburn Valhallers: With the 6-8 inches of fresh snow on Monday night, local trail conditions have gotten even better!  Trail 13N from Washburn to Valhalla is being groomed today (1/17) and Trail 13S from Washburn to the Tri-County Corridor will be groomed on Thursday (1/18).  Any previous bare spots are now covered and our nice base continues to build.  We expect trails to be in very-good to excellent condition for the upcoming weekend.

The Valhalla area received 12 inches of new snow earlier this week. Everything is awesome. The trail to the casino is also open. All trails in excellent condition.

South shore Trail Club – Port Wing, Herbster & Cornucopia: Groomed Trail 1 to Corny Monday, 1/15/18, Trails 40 & 41 will be done Thursday 1/18/18. Lots of snow and great trail conditions in the North.

WAINO Riders- Northwest corner of the County: Trail 1 from Brule to Port Wing received anywhere from a foot to 2 feet of Lake Superior powder on Monday. It will get a fresh grooming before the weekend and will be in great shape.

Closures:

  • Trail 1 near Port Wing: This is now open but use caution as ruts have frozen into the ground.
  • Trail 63 in the Cable Area: Trail 63 just south of the intersection with Trail 70 south of the town of Cable is closed until further notice.

ReReoutes:

  • Trail 13 outside Washburn, follow signs. Permanent reroute.
  • Trail 4 east of Mason, follow signs. Seasonal reroute for now, includes road routes.
  • Trail 70 south of Cable, follow signs. Seasonal reroute for now, includes road routes.

Logging Activity

  • Trail 40 Southeast of Port Wing has a timber sale going active this week so keep your eyes out and stay alert in that area.
  • Trail 1 between Cornucopia and Bayfield near Henkens Road has an active logging operation. They are logging off the trail and using the trail as a haul route so use caution.
  • Trail 51 south of Cornucopia near Jodi road is now being used for an active timber sale. They are logging off the trail and using the trail as a haul route so use caution. Jodi road is also being plowed for a short distance.

Trail Report – : Sugar Camp, Wisconsin – January 18, 2018

Reporter:Matt Winters

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 6-8″

Date of Report: January 18, 2018

Area Report:

The trails in sugar camp are in very good riding conditions. The recent snow we received helped conditions improve greatly. Use caution coming into sharp corners and steeper hills as they are getting icy and all lakes are safe to cross but may be rough and choppy in areas due to drifting. Sugar camp snowmobile club will be having a meat raffle at rummy’s bar in sugar camp Saturday afternoon January 20th so ride on over there for a chance to win some great meat prizes and enjoy the great trails! Always remember 3 digit brown and white numbers at all intersections are crossings are there for your safety and incase of emergency. They pinpoint your exact location for emergency personnel. Remember to purchase your annual trail pass before riding the trails. United we trail divided we fail!
