ALL SNOWMOBILE TRAILS ARE OPEN
GOOD TO VERY GOOD RIDING

Another perfect day to go sledding in Eagle River!  Trails are on average GOOD to VERY GOOD riding condition.  Plenty of SNOW on all of them.  That included the sections of trails that run on a road.  Truly amazing!  Went out to ride yesterday.  Check my report out at the end of today’s report.

Grooming last night with the BR-180 Bombardier. Headed out to go north & a bit west grooming from the Groomer Barn on Bluebird Rd. Trails 10W, 13/3N & 17N.  Then headed back to town grooming the in town “grade” heading south to groom 3S(formerly 13a/Alt13) to the Three Lakes connect.

  • Trail 1N has a logging operation in the section between the Town of Washington Town Hall & Eagle Lake.  Clearly marked with signs.
  • Wisconsin River Trail – 10W/13N  & Manske Swamp – 3N There are rough spots but it is frozen tight. All SNOW covered

CATFISH LAKE LOOP & EAGLE LAKE TRAILS ARE NOW BOTH MARKED AND OFFICIALLY OPEN.  PLEASE STAY BY THE BARRELS TO BE SAFE.  VERY HARD SURFACE.  NO SLUSH.  REMINDER THE CATFISH LAKE LOOP TO LUMPY’S IS NO LONGER A TRAIL.

Yesterday got out to ride & the trails were GOOD to beyond EXCELLENT.  Trail 10E crosses over our driveway so we headed across Hwy 70E to pick up 10 heading east.  Fueled up at Nobbe’s North and then continued heading east on 10E.  Trails were in GOOD shape.  Connected to Trail 11S that heads to Three Lakes.  Trail 11S was VERY GOOD to EXCELLENT.  Met the Three Lakes Trails John Deere groomer.  He was nice enough to back up so we could get around.  Gave him a thumbs up. After we went around the groomer the trail went from VERY GOOD to super EXCELLENT! A small section were you work your way to Big Stone Lake was a little rough but that area has big pines & it’s harder for snow to get in.  Crossed Hwy 32 & headed toward Three Lakes coming into town from the south on the “grade”  VERY GOOD.  Took the “grade” north toward Eagle River.  EXCELLENT to GOOD shape.  Stopped by the Ice Castle in town for early supper at Friendship House.  Then back onto the “grade” to the 3S/10E intersection.  Took 10E heading home.  The section from from Loon Lake Road to our house on the south side was a little rough so rating it FAIR.  Had a great time.  Nothing better than an afternoon of riding.

If you are riding zip on over to the “grade” to check out the 2018 Eagle River Area Fire Department ICE CASTLE!!!!  Located adjacent to the downtown “grade” trail by the Historic Railroad Grade.  The lights installed change colors.  Check out this link Eagle River Ice Castle to check out more photos.  Darn pretty!

Congratulations to Justin Ernst from Rhinelander, WI on his Vintage Championship win! Thursday begins the World Championship Derby.  For more information check out DerbyTrack.com

Area Report:

Busy, busy weekend….lots of traffic out on the trails and lot of visitors in town.    Lake Gogebic area trails are much better on the North as there is more snow.   Groomers are out nightly – trying to keep ahead of the traffic.

Big shout out to Gabe and his crew who took a ride from the  Walleye Lodge to Houghton yesterday and sent back their reports all day long.!      Also, want to say a huge thank you to Rick Hissum our trail boss who is extremely passionate about making sure that you have the best trails to ride.    We have the most traffic – and we have to work the hardest to keep things good!

  • Trail 13 South of the Root Cellar about one mile in the middle of the trail between 2 and Root Cellar – the trail is showing bare and there are some rocks. Majority of the trail is fair to good.  Will be groomed tomorrow.
  • Trail 1 from Marenisco to State Line is bare to fair. Lots of bare spots/rocks.   Needs more snow.
  • Marenisco to Gogebic Lodge & fFshtales – good at best – also needs ore snow.
  • Corridor 1 and 8 West – the trail is groomed every night. Tons of traffic.  Had riders in that rode it this morning and said it was excellent.  By noon it is rough and good at best.
  • 8 East – same thing as above.
  • There’s a stretch 3 miles before Ewen that needs more snow; it is rocky and has bare spots.
  • 13 North is groomed nightly and riders also said that it was excellent this morning.
  • 102 will be groomed tonight.
  • Groomers continue to run nightly.

We have the Mallard open this weekend – nothing next weekend – and February is filling up fast!   Give us a call to get the rooms  you want!!!

Lake Gogebic Ice Fishing Tournament is this weekend – get in on a great time and a great party afterwards at Fishtales!

Shiny side up and have a blast!

Date of Report: January 15, 2018

Area Report:

Hello Riders!

We had a great weekend in Sawyer County! Snow, cold, lots of riders, Snow Cross Race and more! A weekend full of fun! Thursday brought about 4″ of snow to most of the county and temps were in the single digits and lower. Groomers were out in full force! This made for GREAT trails. Then Sunday blessed us again with approximately 2″ of more fresh snow. We have about a 4-6″ base and reports throughout the county are that trails are groomed and in VERY GOOD condition and the LAKES ARE GREAT! The week calls for temps in the teens to the twenties and the weekend some warmer temps that will bring more snow and back down to the twenties again. We are having a great season!

One area reported to ride with caution is Trail 9 from Couderay to Devils Lake Road, this area does have some washouts/ruts and little snow and is very poor, attention has been brought to this area but in the meantime please ride with caution.

Almost all surrounding counties are not only completely open but reported to be in good condition; Ashland, Bayfield, Douglas, Washburn and Price are GOOD. Rusk is PARTIALLY OPEN and Barron is currently closed.

Thank you to all club members and volunteers, thank you to all groomers that go out late nights and days off! You’re doing amazing jobs! Thank you to all who choose Sawyer County to ride and to share your excitement for this sport with us!

THE GOGEBIC RANGE TRAIL AUTHORITY REPORTS:
01/12/2018
We saw incredible traffic this past weekend, Saturday all trails were groomed. All trails have a great base, corners can be icy so please use caution.

Trail 2 from Hurley to Ramsay US-2 Crossing:
Overall rating is good to very good. Thin spots on trail exist, by the transfer station east of Walmart with icy corners. Slow down and use caution. The rail-bed trail ENDS on the east side of the Keystone Bridge. The club grooms the bridge to maintain it for local access. The “old” trail to Wakefield is closed east of Verona Rd. and anyone caught riding it will be ticketed.

Trial 2 from Ramsay Crossing to Wakefield:
Overall rating is good to fair. This will be groomed this evening. The trail is thin in the lower elevations and corners are icy. Please stay on your side of the trail, many near-miss accidents due to sleds on the wrong side of the trail. Please ride safely.

Trail 2 from Wakefield to Marenisco:
Overall rating is good to very good. This trail will be groomed ASAP. Watch for icy corners from Wakefield to US HWY 2 trail crossing. Snow is thinner as you travel from Wakefield to Marenisco.

Trail 8 from Bingos to Tula Crossing:
Overall rating is good to very good. This was last groomed on the 14th. It is a wide seasonal county road that is not plowed and makes a fun trail to ride. Trail 8 where the GRTA groomer turns around is finally groomed by the Gogebic Area Groomers.

Trail 160 from Walmart to Montreal River(WI):
Overall rating is good to very good. This trail was groomed on the 14th. You will also encounter some active logging near the Lake Road area, please go slow, logging trucks have the right of way. Please remember to stay on the trail!!!! Do not go off the trails and ride on farmers fields, this can lose easement for our trails. This trail is very scenic so enjoy!!

Trial 11S:
Overall rating is fair to very good. There are still some thin spots on this trail and still needs some brushing. Keep speeds slow as you travel the southern half of it, once you cross the bridge within 2 miles there are some rough spots.
