Trail Report: Lake Gogebic, Michigan – January 30, 2017

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: Fair

Date of Report: January 30, 2017

Area Report:

For the week of Jan 30 – Feb 6:

Colder temperatures (especially at night!)  and snow is in the forecast and just what we need to get our conditions back in shape.   We had about 7” of snow last night and there’s snow forecasted for almost every day this week.    Trail conditions continue to improve daily and we had riders in that said that the “were actually not bad at all” and they also said that they were a lot better than the expected.     Groomers have been out and are working hard to get this back in shape.     1 South is still plagued with wet spots and an impassable spot on trail 12 between Greenland and Ontonagon was reported, however, it was also reported that the “trail was groomed to perfection on the way up to it”.

As previously posted, please stay on the trails in Bergland. You are not allowed to ride the highway through town and may be ticketed. You can only access the gas station by following the trail through the park and crossing directly across from the gas station from Antonio’s Restaurant.  If riding the roads through Merriweather (down to the Hoop ‘N Holler Tavern or to the lake) please remember to ride at the posted speed limit of 25 mph and stay to the side and as always be aware that this is a residential area and watch for traffic.    Also, access through the Walleye Lodge to the Lake is limited to their guests and customers.

There’s a lot of winter and good riding to be had.   Just waiting for Mother Nature to turn her snow machine back on.    She likes to keep us on our toes with her “reality checks”.      We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and we look forward to seeing you very soon!!

Have a great week….

Trail Report: Conover, Wisconsin – January 30, 2017

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 9″ – 10″ in the woods

Date of Report: January 30, 2017

Area Report:

The groomers have been out for the last 4 nights. Temps fell to low single digits last night & trails firmed up pretty well. We have had about 1/2″ more or less of light snow that has at least turned the brown snow banks white & gave us something to groom into the old stuff. A clipper is forecast for today but as usual, the NWS is now backing off the snowfall estimates.

I groomed the WEST side last night & what I found was:

Trail 8 along K within 1 mile of town is bumpy, basically ice with a thin brown snow cover. Groomer just followed the frozen contour. I’d call it poor/fair. Beyond this area, everything on the SOUTH side of K west to & including the Deer Path trail is good or better with a few icy corners.

Trail 13 & 45 NORTH of K was basically good with a section about 2 miles north (but before the bridge) that had thin brownish snow but groomed flat. After the bridge, 13 was good all the way to Rummels Rd intersection with Land-O. I did not head east on 45. Again, watch for ice in corners.

Expect the east side has similar conditions; Primarily good with a some fair areas, possible icy corners & poor road crossings.

Expect poor (bare) road crossings on 45 & K and road routes will be about the same. The driveways & road crossings along the south side of K were good.

Twin Haven via the new trail; Trail is nice except for the last 3/4 mile where it turns off the grade. This section has now been groomed & is much better but still has new trail bumps. For those running along the power lines N from North Twin boat ramp, you now have a stop sign at the grade, E/W traffic has the right of way.

The lakes are marked and had lots of snow. Watch for the possibility of slush/ ruts and/or standing water anywhere on the lakes. More snow is needed to smoothen out the lakes.

News and Reports:

It crossed my mind that for those of you that have never snowmobiled in Vilas or surrounding, it is unlike areas further south. We really have nearly zero farm field crossings. Most riding is in the woods, some trails are on old rail grades & there are lots of lake crossings. But, be prepared to travel a distance to the next stop, especially along the northern portions of the county. Please stay on the trails; Trespassing is the fastest way to loose trails.

Don’t forget you need a WI trail permit to ride the state’s groomed trail system. Aggressive riding causes more trail damage than slower, less aggressive riding. Ride right & be safe.

Snowmobile Information:

Conover Blizzard Blast is February 18th at the Conover Town Park on Hwy K east.

Trail Report: Boulder Junction, Wisconsin – January 30, 2017

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 8-10

Date of Report: January 30, 2017

Area Report:

Trail report for January 30, 2017-Trails are fair. With the sustained below freezing temps throughout this last week our base has stiffened up rock hard. We had a little lake effect snow (about an inch) yesterday but could use at least a couple of inches or more to cover our base well. The corners and around town it is very bare in spots and icy but out in the woods it is flat and nice. The logging areas have very little snow so use caution. We were out grooming this morning and will be out tonight also. There is a snow system coming in today and tomorrow from the northwest and we will have to see how much snow we will get from that system. Any amount will improve the trails along with the below freezing temps. We need snow and cold weather!!!   Please be careful out there! Remember be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 5 to 6 inches

Date of Report: January 30, 2017

Area Report:

We heard from some friends that there is still some decent trails out there, so we decided to take a ride yesterday.  We put on about 125 miles.  Here is what we found.  The trail had plenty of ice base and some snow for lube and cooling.  We went north of Crooked Lake and up toward Silver Cliff.  This was decent.  Trails north of Highway C are in good shape.  Riding north and west and riding some of the connecting club trails we found very good riding.  The east end of our trails and the high traffic areas are very thin on snow.

I see another weather pattern entering our area later today.  We will update you on that.

Trail Report: Oconto County, Wisconsin – January 30, 2017

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 5-9

Date of Report: January 30, 2017

Area Report:

Townsend – Red Arrow Snowmobile – ATV Club – The trails are in GOOD TO VERY GOOD riding condition thru the Red Arrow system. Bare in mind that there are icy spots and an occasional rock, but overall considering what we have been through, there is some darn nice riding to be had. Some of the snow has become sugary in some areas, but not to worry the weather man is calling for some fresh snow on Monday.

Lakewood – Paul Bunyan Snowmobile Club – All trails groomed out great last night. There are a few thin areas but overall are in good to very good condition. There is a water problem behind Backwoods Bar & Grill off county T.

Bagley and Brazeau – Joyriders Trails -I hate to report this but we are keeping the trails close for the weekend, do to the water on the trails and fields have very little snow on them also we only ended up with 1/2”of snow no good for grooming. Maybe Monday we will get more snow and then we can open the trails back up

Gillett Sno ATV Riders – Trails are in poor condition.  We will not be grooming until we receive more snow. We ask that people stay off the trails until we get more snow and cooler weather.

Chute Pond Snowmobile Club – Chute Pond trails are open, and grooming on a regular basis. Our trails are thin, with a very icy base- which with even light traffic gets exposed in and around the corners.

The Nicolet State Trail (railroad grade) is in poor condition south of Breed, and in fair to good condition north of Breed. Wooded trails west of Hwy 32 are in groomed and in fair to mostly good condition- wooded trails east of Hwy 32 are still a work in progress. Groomers are trying to improve their condition- but for now they’re in poor to fair condition, with some areas better than fair.

Please be aware that the groomers may be out day and night as needed to get the trails back into shape. Please watch out for the groomers, and give them space when you see them.

Expect some rough and bare spots, some standing water and slushy spots, and probable icy areas, especially near the corners. Please ride with caution- and stay on the marked trails.

Oconto Falls – Sno Jokers Trails –  Trails are CLOSED.

Lena Snow Drifters – Trails are CLOSED.
Chase Sno-Chasers – Trails are CLOSED.

Trail Report: Three Lakes – Brule River, Wisconsin – January 30, 2017

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 12-14″

Date of Report: January 30, 2017

Area Report:

Got a few inches of snow sunday morning. This will really help with the roads and lubrication. With the upcoming forecast of more snow, I would start making plans for some awesome mid week riding or taking Friday off and heading to Three Lakes early. We are still grooming as needed. Lakes are slushy, but still safe. Stay close to the barrels.
