All trails were groomed last night with the exception of the WI River Bridge portion of Trails 10W/13N. Still wet out there.

Temps dropped again last night so the trails are hard, smooth & icy. About an inch of snow on average in Eagle River area on top. Looks like a bit more east of Eagle River.  5 degrees at 7:30am with a high of 21 and low of 14 today.  Light snow Tuesday & Wednesday. No totals.  Stay tuned.  It will be teens or single digits at night all week.

Catfish Lake Loop & Eagle Lake Trail are OPEN & safe by the orange reflective barrels.

No problem areas to report except that under the snow it is icy so it is slippery.  Slow down on straight aways & corners.

If you are riding keep the Emergency 3 Digit Numbers in mind.  If you need assistance with an emergency call 911 & give them the most recent number you saw.  This helps dispatch pin point your location.

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 12 inches

Date of Report: January 28, 2017

Area Report:

Did a lot of riding the past 2 days with Dan, Mark, and Joe. Most trails were very good. Bond Falls was great, Trail to Maple View, Club 45, Dublins all great. Once yo went south of Conover traffic was huge and the trails went down hill fast. Once you got close to Bent’s the trail was gravelly but after you went across the chain all trail into Watersmeet and Land O were very good.

News and Reports:

Rode lots of lakes and slush is not a problem.

All trails were groomed last night with the exception of the WI River Bridge portion of Trails 10W/13N.  Temps dropped last night so the trails are hard, smooth & icy. Only a little snow on top.  Making the trails slippery everywhere.  Be good to slow down.  Might have issues with hi fax so dip into the edge of the trail to lubricate.

Looks like January temps have returned. 20’s during the day and teens or single digits at night. A schiff of snow overnight.  Might be a little more today but the best chance for measurable snow is Monday.  Weather guys says 1-3 inches during the day Monday. 1-3 more inches Monday night!  Stay tuned to see if they are right!

Trail Report: Cable, Wisconsin – January 27, 2017

Trail Conditions: Poor

Snow Cover: 2″

Date of Report: January 27, 2017

Area Report:

Due to warm temperatures and deteriorating conditions all snowmobile trail grooming in Bayfield County has been suspended some sections of trails have been temporarily closed.

Expect varying trail conditions ranging from fair to poor. Trails are generally rideable with some icy, slushy, and bare spots. With cooler temps forecasted, expect more icy conditions. Trails in open areas/fields have very little to no snow cover. Use caution for exposed rocks, wet areas and icy conditions as trails could deteriorate quickly in a short amount of time.

Please keep in mind that some of these trails are on private land.  Private landowners give us permission to maintain portions of these trails on their property.  If a segment is in poor condition or if riding could result in damage, please refrain from use.  Any damage to the trail system, especially those that exist on private land, will jeopardize our future use privileges and potentially result in permanent trail closures.

Under normal circumstances, winter ATV use is permissible only on snowmobile trails that are also designated as ATV trails.  The warmer temperatures have created wet, sensitive and highly variable trail conditions.  As a result, ATV use has the potential to damage the system and create additional problems when colder temperatures return.  Until further notice, all ATV use is prohibited on the dual-use snowmobile trails.  This includes tracked or wheeled ATVs and UTVs. However, ATV use is still allowed on the Tri-County Corridor and Town Road routes.

Trail Closures:

  • Trail 13 South out of Washburn to the Tri-County Corridor.
  • Trail 4 East and West out of Mason
  • Trail 63 South out of Mason to Grand View
  • Trail 31 South in Barnes
