Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 12-18″

Date of Report: January 26, 2017

Area Report:

The warm weather this Past week has made it mostly impossible to keep these trails in the great condition that they are usually in. We will be out grooming within the next day or so as the weather cools down. It will take a lot of work to get these trails back in shape but we are working at it.
We received very little of the snow that the southern part of the state received yesterday. Hoping for more in the next few days. we had a good base however, so there are not too many bare spots. Ice may be a factor so please be careful out there.

Trail Report: Sugar Camp, Wisconsin – January 26, 2017

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 6_8″

Date of Report: January 26, 2017

Area Report:

Trail’s in Sugar Camp are currently in fair/good riding conditions. Grooming began again after a week of warm weather and to preserve the base we have. You will come across some brown and snirrty conditions in corners and where the sun hit open areas. Also be aware there is some water appearing in swampy and low lying areas on the trails as the warm weather opened up the swamps. These areas are safe to cross as there is still a good ice base beneath them. Lakes are very slushy so maintain lower speeds while crossing them and stay close to barrels. There is colder weather in the forecast again to freeze things up.Remember to buy your annual trail pass before riding the trails and the 3 digit brown and white signs at all intersections and road crossings for your safety and in case of emergency will give emergency personnel an accurate nearest location. United we trail divided we fail!

Trail Report: Bayfield County, Wisconsin – January 25, 2017

Trail Conditions: Poor

Snow Cover: 0-6″

Date of Report: January 25, 2017

Area Report:

Due to warm temperatures and deteriorating trail conditions all grooming in Bayfield County has been suspended and we have closed some sections of trails. Expect varying trail conditions ranging from fair to poor. Trails are generally rideable with some icy, slushy, and bare spots. With cooler temps forecasted, expect more icy conditions. Trails in open areas/fields have very little to no snow cover. Use caution for exposed rocks, wet areas and icy conditions as trails could deteriorate quickly in a short amount of time.

Please keep in mind that some of these trails are on private land.  Private landowners give us permission to maintain portions of these trails on their property.  If a segment is in poor condition or if riding could result in damage, please refrain from use.  Any damage to the trail system, especially those that exist on private land, will jeopardize our future use privileges and potentially result in permanent trail closures.

Under normal circumstances, winter ATV use is permissible only on snowmobile trails that are also ATV trails in the summer.  The warmer temperatures have created wet, sensitive and highly variable trail conditions.  As a result, ATV use has the potential to damage the system and create additional problems when colder temperatures return.  Until further notice, all ATV use is prohibited on the snowmobile trails.  This includes tracked or wheeled ATVs and UTVs. However, ATV use is still allowed on the Tri-County Corridor and Town Road routes.

Trails Closures:

  • Trail 13 South out of Washburn to the Tri-County Corridor.
  • Trail 4 East and West out of Mason
  • Trail 63 South out of Mason to Grand View
  • Trail 31 South in Barnes.
