“Pleasantly suprised” is what I am hearing from the riders today (Sat., Jan 21). I would call our trails fair/ poor. This is from a family and the wife talking, so Guys, put on your “big boy pants” and suck it up. The rain has stopped, yes there are some bare spots, but we still have snow. ALL KIDDING ASIDE, lets hope we get some cooler weather soon and some more snow…. ‘Cuz I Wanna ride!

Our next club function is Sun Feb 5th Breakfast at the Pea Patch 8am-noon and drawing for Guns and Roses! tickets available at area businesses. Then It’s time to Rendezvous Sat Feb 18th at Rest Lake.

Area Report:

I don’t know what I can tell you.  I think you already know.  Mother Nature has hit us with a January thaw, but on the good side at least no sun.  We did talk to a few riders this weekend who were surprised at how well the base is holding up.  From my observation in riding and checking the trails, other than a few areas, I see the same.  So, our base should hold up through more warm weather this week.  It is supposed to cool down then, and a possibility of some snow.  Seriously, it shouldn’t take too much snow to get us right back up in great shape!

Trail Report: Conover, Wisconsin – January 22, 2017

Trail Conditions: Poor

Snow Cover: 9″-10″ in the woods

Date of Report: January 22, 2017

Area Report:

The groomers have not been out since Thursday night. Temps briefly fell below freezing early Friday morning and have stayed above since. It is foggy this morning & is forecast to stay foggy until noon. Highs forecast above freezing until Wednesday. It will take several inches of snow and cold to get trails back to good.

Traffic has been light and most I saw were rentals. I can’t imagine riding in poor conditions with rain but……

Twin Haven via the new trail; Trail is nice except for the last 3/4 mile where it turns off the grade. This section has now been groomed & is much better but still has new trail bumps. For those running along the power lines N from North Twin boat ramp, you now have a stop sign at the grade, E/W traffic has the right of way.

The lakes are marked and had lots of snow. Watch for the possibility of slush and/or standing water in low spots along the trails and anywhere on the lakes.

News and Reports:

It crossed my mind that for those of you that have never snowmobiled in Vilas or surrounding, it is unlike areas further south. We really have nearly zero farm field crossings. Most riding is in the woods, some trails are on old rail grades & there are lots of lake crossings. But, be prepared to travel a distance to the next stop, especially along the northern portions of the county. Please stay on the trails; Trespassing is the fastest way to loose trails.

Don’t forget you need a WI trail permit to ride the state’s groomed trail system. Aggressive riding causes more trail damage than slower, less aggressive riding. Ride right & be safe.

Snowmobile Information:

Conover Blizzard Blast is February 18th at the Conover Town Park on Hwy K east.

Trail Report: Sayner, Wisconsin – January 21, 2017

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 2 inches average on the trail

Date of Report: January 21, 2017

Area Report:

A week ago we had incredible trails. However – Ma Nature has not been kind since then. We have had daytime temps in the middle 30s to low 40s. Yesterday and again today – we have had rain & drizzle off and on. The trails are all pretty much soft to say the least. High traffic exposed areas are brown, mushy, and mucky. Further away – deeper in the woods they are still pretty good. The sections where we have logging going on have suffered as well.

There is a little good news for next week. Temps are supposed to stay below freezing starting next Wednesday night. We are also supposed to see a little snow next Wednesday and into Thursday.

Our hope for right now is that the base does not get too torn up this weekend. Then we can get it leveled out again before the temps drop again next week – freezing down a nice level base again. Then lets all do a snow dance. If this all happens – it will carry us into February.
