Snowmobile Report – March 3, 2023
We received 34+ inches of snow this past week!!!  Groomers in Ashland County are out working out the many drifts on the trails.  Once the trails are groomed they will AGAIN be in EXCELLENT condition.  Be prepared for icy corners, hills and intersections.  There is still ice underneath this fresh snow and snow drifts in areas so please BE CAREFUL!    Slow down, stay right, and be prepared for changing snow conditions.  Logging will be taking place February 10th for 2 weeks on Trail 8 from Parker Rd to White Bass Road.  Please use caution and ride safe.  Only 200 feet of trail will be dozed on each side.  Detour has been posted on Trail 12.  Be aware of more traffic in that area due to logging in progress.  Area affectied is by Agenda Rd and Blueberry Rd.  Enjoy your ride and stay safe!

Snowmobile Information:

Please stay on the trail.  A lot of Ashland County snowmobile trails are on farmers land, please be respectful so we don’t lose our easement to their property. Snowmobiles may not be modified, or operated, to amplify or otherwise increase the total vehicle noise above the originally manufactured snowmobile noise level.

As always please follow the snowmobile trail rules and regulations

As always operate with everyone’s safety in mind and report any hazardous trail issues that are observed to the Ashland County Sheriff’s Department (715-682-7023 opt 1) so that it can be forwarded to the appropriate service.

The Tri-County Corridor is open from Superior to Ashland. There are still several areas on the eastern end that require attention but all known hazards have been identified and marked. Use caution when approaching ribbons, barricades, and cones.

Important reminders: There is no snowmobiling allowed from Ashland to Bad River/Odanah as snowmobiling is not permitted on reservation land.  However, snowmobiling is allowed from Bad River east to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Snowmobile Information:

Ran 156 miles today. Overall a great day of riding. Sun came out, and it got warm, but overall the system is good – just be careful. There are a few thin spots. Ran up trail 1, Stearns Lake Road, to 51 this morning, and back down again this afternoon. A thanks to groomer Stan – trail 1 is great yet. East Boundary and Stearns Lake have asphalt spots, but a lot of snow to run on. A lot of sled traffic, but overall trails held up pretty well. Looks like a good day tomorrow.Mark

Trail Report – : Sayner, Wisconsin – March 3, 2023

Reporter:SaynerStar Lake Barnstormers

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: Dwindling fast

Date of Report: March 3, 2023

Area Report:

Today, we’ve mid 30s and sun.  These temps are making the trails a little mushy, especially in the afternoons.  Bare spots have started to develop in some areas and the sun will expand those spots quickly.

For now, we have still been grooming nightly.  We do have some hills that have become too icy for the groomers to safely navigate, so in those sections, we have limited or stopped grooming.  The TIN numbers for these areas are 220-228, 353-359, 344-362.  Be aware that if these trails aren’t as smooth, that’s why.

Weather dictates everything this time of year.  There isn’t much we can do when the temps get too warm.  Your best riding will always be first thing in the morning.  That’s when you’ll find freshly groomed trails that haven’t been softened by the warmer temps or wrecked by traffic.  Afternoon to evening riding will be the most questionable.

Remember to pay attention to the closed trail signs.  Ride right, slow down, ride safe!!

Iron Snow Shoe Trails are OPEN & in GOOD SPRING RIDING CONDITION

It was nice to see quite a bit of sleds out during the week.  The groomers have been out this week too.

There is some dirt showing on some corners & direct sunlight areas but over all in the woods are in good spring riding….it is March already.

With the warm weather predicted for this weekeding please keep in mind the best time to ride is in the morning and in the evning, avoiding the highest peak temperature of the day.

GOOD NEWS- it is supposed to be cloudy all weekend so that will help save on the trails.

Rminder- ATV/UTV are not allowed on The Iron Snow Shoe trails when 32 degrees or warmer.

Please stay on the trails, keep right and watch for groomers.  Enjoy the trails and ride safe.

Boulder Junction Snowmobile Club Trail Report – Friday, 3/3/2023

At 8:00 a.m. it’s 25 degrees out with overcast skies and a high of 37 degrees for today.

We groomed 15S and 8E early this morning.

We did maintenance on our equipment yesterday and we are still down 1 one groomer. Our new tracks are being delivered today and hopefully we will get them installed and be in full force for the weekend.

8E, 11, and 15S are in very good condition, but 15N, 2W, and 8W are in fair to good condition due to not being groomed in a few days. We will be out grooming those tonight. The snowmobile road route through town and to the gas station are getting bare due to yesterdays’ warm temps and sun being out.

We’re getting close to the end of the season, but with snow forecast for Monday and cooler temps next week, we can look forward to another week of riding.

Enjoy our trails and local businesses this weekend and as always “Ride Right” and be safe.

Groomer Mike took care of several trails from Oma to Upson, and Groomer Justin is out flattening the curves on trail 17 early this morning. This all adds up to another great weekend for your enjoyment on the Iron County trails!

Hello Riders!

It’s been a beautiful week with fresh snow and more grooming time.  Groomers have been out this week and it will be a great weekend to ride.  There are some fun events happening this weekend, Lakewoods Weenie Roast is always fun time with the largest weenie roast and drag races, a great destination to ride on Saturday.

Moving into March, to still having great snow and trails is “icing on the cake” for the season.  As you may or may not know, Sawyer County snow trails never “technically” close so there is no projected stop date. Our groomers will continue to run as much as they can, provided weather allows, and it’s safe to run on lakes and wetlands.  To check out the groomed trails and stay up to date please look at the GTS app.

Many of the business in the county are open year-round however there are some that have seasonal hours and some will close after this weekend or further into the month.  Others may adjust their hours as the season slows down. As you move through March and plan rides, please consider the places you want to stop and make sure to check out their hours.

As always, ride safe and enjoy the upcoming weekend!
