Area Report:

Taconite Trail: Snow depth: 8-26”  Base: 1-3”  Groomed: yes  Condition: Fair to Good  The entire Taconite Trail is in fair to good condition. The trail base is thin due to warm weather and heavy trail use, and there are multiple spots on the trail were bare ground and rocks are exposed.  Many corners are also icy. 

Arrowhead Trail:  Snow depth: 12-26”  Base: 1-3”  Groomed: Yes  Condition: Fair to Good  The entire Arrowhead is groomed and in fair to good condition.  The trail base is thin due to warm weather and heavy trail use, and there are multiple spots on the trail with bare ground and rocks exposed.  Please be aware of logging operations along the trail. 

Putnum/Fishing Lakes Trail:  Base: 1-4”  Groomed: Yes  Condition: Good  The trail is groomed and in good condition.  The base is holding well due to proportionally less use than the Arrowhead and Taconite trails. 

Soudan Underground Mine & Vermilion State Park Trails: Base: 2-5”  Groomed: Yes  Condition: Good  The Lake Vermilion Park trails are groomed and in good condition. The base is holding well due to proportionally less use than the Arrowhead and Taconite trails. 

Ely Area Trails & Tomahawk: As with the Arrowhead and Taconite trails, the base is thin and will have some exposed trail and rocks.  Use caution if traveling on lakes.  The warm weather has created slushy conditions on lake surfaces.
