Your Online Trail and Travel Guide for Snowmobiling the U.S. & Canada

Trail Report: Lake Gogebic, Michigan – December 16, 2016

Trail Conditions: Early Season
Snow Cover: Moderate
Date of Report: December 16, 2016
Area Report:

Winter weather advisory and lake effect advisory will continue thru the weekend and we are predicted to receive 15” of snow by Sunday.      Ice is on the bay and heading out to the lake but lake riding is not recommended at this time.     We’ve heard that groomers will be heading out to pack the trails down sometime between this weekend and mid- week of next week.    We think that we should be in good shape for our riders by next weekend.

Unplowed county roads and Trail 8 east are probably the best riding this early. Trails 1 south & 13 south are wet (which should change with the much colder temps coming), trails 102 & 13 north are ride able but very rough. Trail 1 north is ride able but watch for some wet spots. Trail 100, at the south end of the lake, is temporarily closed while we reroute around some logging.
With all that said I would say that snowmobiling should be looking pretty good by next weekend, however there are always some hurdles to overcome early on in the season – so just don’t expect perfection just yet.
We’ve also mentioned but it’s worth mentioning again that the Lake Gogebic area has a brand new Piston Bully groomer for a total of 3 Piston Bullys to keep our trails in good shape this year!

We should be in good shape for riding by next weekend!    Rooms are filling up for the week between Christmas and New Years and now is the time to give us a call if you are thinking about coming up to the area at that time to ride.

Have a great weekend – and we’ll look forward to seeing you soon!
