Happy New Year to All ~

The U. P. Thunder Riders are grooming every day now. We really need more snow than what we are getting regularly…a real dumper or two is our wish! I don’t have an update from the grooming that was done today but we don’t anticipate much in the way of changes. The base is about 7″ out there and trails are in fair to good condition. A lot of traffic today caused them to be a little rough from what we heard from some sledders, but with the cold and the grooming started this afternoon, we expect that conditions improved and are still about the same:

Trail 3 North has been fair with some bare spots to watch out for about half way to Bond Falls. From that point on, the trail north is in good shape.

Trail 3 South from Land O’ Lakes has been in good condition.

Trail 2 East towards Iron River has been in fair condition while Trail 2 West towards Marenisco and Lake Gogebic has been in good condition.

Trail 13 South has been in good condition, too.

Please be aware that with Christmas night’s freezing rain, there are some icy spots out there. You may also encounter some rocks and gravel that haven’t been totally covered up with snow yet. Also, we are hearing 4″ to 9″ of ice on the lakes. Where there are springs or moving water underneath, we are still concerned. Please, please be careful out there. Ask the locals before venturing across the lakes.

Be safe, have a wonderful time, and enjoy the beautiful Northwoods that we are so lucky to have been given.
