We are currently experiencing above freezing weather and it will last for the next few days. Main trails and road routes are taking a beating and will most likely be bare. However there is still plenty to ride, be creative, get out in the woods and out by the Turtle Flambeau Flowage. Look at a map and plan your route before you go out. Grooming operations have halted until colder weather moves back in. There is snow in the forecast going into the weekend so hopefully that replaces what we lose. Thank you for your support this season, it’s not perfect but we are making the best out of what we are dealt and we aren’t done yet!

Snowmobile Report – February 23, 2025
Trails south of Mellen are open and poor to fair conditions. Trails north of Mellen are closed at this time due to lack of snow. Sorry but the warm temps have are deteriorating the trails. Let’s hope for more cold and snow!!!
Please stay on the trail. A lot of Ashland County snowmobile trails are on farmers land, please be respectful so we don’t lose our easement to their property. Snowmobiles may not be modified, or operated, to amplify or otherwise increase the total vehicle noise above the originally manufactured snowmobile noise level.

Area Report:
All trails have been groomed Friday and Saturday. There was a ton of sled traffic this weekend. We groomed as late as we could to limit traffic on fresh groomed trails so they could freeze up. Some trails are holding up well, and other spots are getting bare to little cover. Temps are supposed to be above freezing during the day time this week, so grooming will probably be limited for now. More snow is needed. I’ll report back this week with any weather updates
News and Reports:
Trail 12 from the RR grade TIN 732 to County K TIN 731 has ruts from ATVs. There isn’t enough snow to fill the ruts, but it is getting better. We put signs at each end of the trail for Caution Next 1 mile and Rough Trail. Use caution when traveling this area.
The Cemetery Trail from TIN 724 to TIN 725, and south to TIN 727 at Church Rd is thin for snow cover. You will find a few bare spots, There is a hill between TIN 725 and TIN 726 at Lindberg Rd that was bare from sleds going up it. The swamp area did freeze up, so it is good to go.

Fair on Average – Conditions changing quickly
Fine light SNOW as I report this morning 6 miles east of Eagle River. Just like yesterday. More SNOW Tuesday, Wednesday morning & Friday. Warm up is here & will last until Friday. Weather guys forecasting temps & 30’s & even 40’s until next Friday for highs. For the most part temps at night will be in the mid 20’s & snow will freeze up. Heavy, heavy traffic this weekend. Some trails are fatigued out. Grooming will switch over to panning to build up the base again. Trails that run on the north & west side of road breakdown first keep that in mind when you ride. As always woods riding is the best. Road routes are for the most part still ice covered on the edges & right of ways on the roads in most place still have hard snow. Some road routes are hard snow covered as of this morning, like Taylor Lake Rd that is part of 10E which is a one way trail starting near the Sports Arena. Heading out still pretty SNOW covered. Head west back to town Fair to Poor. Lots of sections with snirt. Photo on the left was taken by drivers last night! Not all bad!
GTS app shows almost full grooming session. Right click on the map to see an enlarged version,
Eagle Lake & Catfish Lake crossing are safe only by the orange reflective barrels. No surface slush as of this morning. That may change with the warm up.
1/2 inch new SNOW! See ya on the trails!

It was another rocking breakfast at Sunrise Lodge. Reports have been very positive as all Frosty club trails were groomed last night. There is a warm up coming but night time temps should allow for us to continue grooming nightly. We really need the Evil sun to stay away. Some snow in the forecast as well so not all is gloom and doom. Plenty of riding left in Land O Lakes this season.

Thanks to the Women on Snow for their generous donation to the Frosty Cub. Much Appreciated.
