Snow Cover: Snow cover dropping quickly due to temps in the 40’s

Trail 10W/13N aka Wisconsin River Bridge trail is 
CLOSED FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON

Well the chances of getting to the end of the month are not looking as good as this did this past weekend.  The Vilas County Snowmobile Alliance had it’s monthly meeting tonight.  The 11 clubs that make up the Vilas County Snowmobile Alliance have unanimously voted to close the trails on Sunday, March 24 at midnight.  So if you are going to ride do it quickly.

Sunny skies have taken a toll on most trails in Eagle River.  The warm days & cold nights had turned the SNOW into really crystallized icy SNOW.  Frozen in the morning then soft as the day went by.  Looks more like a frozen snow cone on the trails in the morning.  The base is still hard ice in most areas except in town.  Snirt & dirt appearing as well.

No grooming.

These important updates continue if you choose to ride this last weekend of the season:

There is 1 logging operations going on where there is a need to use parts of the trails. Trail 13N by Deep Lake Rd. Plus utility work on 7 near Sugar Camp on the high line.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. Lots of slush so for the more experienced rider at this point.

The 2 one-way trail areas are 10E from the ERRA Sports Arena all the way out to Nicolet Mini Mart.  The other is the 13’s up near Buckatabon Bridge & Bauer’s Dam area.  

Well we almost made.  Been a great season.  Here’s to another SNOWY 2019-2020 season!

Trail Report – : Antigo/Langlade County, Wisconsin – March 20, 2019

Area Report:

Due to deteriorating trail conditions, all of SECTION B of the Langlade County funded snowmobile trails will be closed effective immediately Thursday, March 14, 2019.  In addition to the closure of Section B of the Langlade County Snowmobile Trail System, the following trails in Section A will close immediately:
  • Corridor 16 between intersections 74 & 93 due to standing water.
  • Intersection 103 to Intersection 24 at Polar due to standing water.
  • Corridor 9 south of Highway 64 due to standing water.
  • Intersection 52A to County Highway J  due to standing water
  • Intersection 54C to 53A  due to frequent truck traffic.
  • Intersection 53B to 51A due to frequent truck traffic.
The remaining trails in section A will remain open at this time.  Expect late season riding conditions.  The wooded areas are holding up, with some water present in the low lying areas.   Trails may be rough in areas and caution is advised. Trail conditions may change rapidly, please be aware of Trail Closed signs and stay on marked trails.

Note that ATV’s are not allowed on snowmobile trails when the temperature is above 28° F. UTV’s are not allowed on the Langlade County Snowmobile trail system.

Date of Report: March 20, 2019

Area Report:

Trails are still rideable, but expectations must be lowered to enjoy a ride.  The trails are flat still have a small base.  The roads are clear and bare spots will be showing up.

The lakes are still good, but the markers will be coming off in the near future. 

Bottom line, you can still ride,but the end is near.

Grooming operations have ceased at this point

trails east of town are in great shape   [lite traffic] the flowage has laid down good and is good riding. stay by the markers water is down, lots of stumps. 17 north is closed at 310 rd north. trails in mercer are open till Friday at this point

Area Report:

Starting March 21, 2019, Bayfield County Snowmobile trails will be closed for the season.  ATV/UTV trails will open when conditions allow, as determined by each respective trail manager, usually sometime in early May.  The Tri-County Corridor and ATV/UTV Routes will remain open, as usual.

Area Report:

Trail report for March 20, 2019– Trails are fair. It is currently about 24 Deg above zero. It is the first day of spring! With the bright sun and warm temps there was a lot of snow melting going on. The inside corners are wearing out leaving puddles and bare spots. We expect some light snow showers this morning turning to rain this afternoon. The trails get pretty good out away from town but with the warmer temps in the 50’s later in the week and weekend they will not last. It really looks like the last of the season is coming fast. The road routes and road crossings are very bare. Please use caution! Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.
