TRAILS FAIR to GOOD

Temps have dropped.  High of 19 today and 5 tonight. A very good start for the weekend! Plus a schiff of SNOW on our vehicles 6 miles east of Eagle River.  Best chance of measurable SNOW is Sunday into Monday.  Sunday 2-3 inches in the forecast.  Monday the forecast is 3-5 inches.  Boy if that happens trails conditions will be great!

Trails are FAIR to GOOD. The sun has caused some trail areas to breakdown.  There is snirt at most road crossings.  Trails that run near or along side of road on the north side of the road are breaking down.  Same with wide open areas.  “Burn through” of snow & even l areas of base. In town trails are softening up because of the evil sun.  Paved road routes for the most part have no SNOW on them.  Your best riding is out of town.

For the trails on whole can’t stress enough the base is really, really icy everywhere not just in the corners.  Please slow down so you can stay on the right side of the trail.  High berms in most sharp corners take extra care there.  The snow on top of the ice base is thin & fatigued out, meaning SNOW too is icy.  With the icy conditions you can get in real trouble real easily.

Trail Boss reports the following trails groomed last night:

  • 10W/13N/7S – to include the Wisconsin River Bridge area
  • 17N
  • 3N aka Manske Swamp
  • 1N
  • 3S to Three Lakes

Trail 1N logging operation continues in the section between the Town of Washington Town Hall & Eagle Lake. Right now there are logs in piles along sections of the trail. With the log piles and icy grainy conditions in that section it would be good to slow down. Very icy corners. Minimal grooming due to the logging operation.

Catfish Lake Loop & Eagle Lake Trails are marked with orange easy to see reflective barrels.  Please stay by the barrels to be safe.  No surface slush, Reports that Eagle Lake has 20+ inches of ice.  Reminder that the Catfish Lake Trail that ran from Braywood to Lumpy’s is not open.  Please do not trespass on private land.

Celebrate Snowmobiling Snow Show is set for this Sunday, February 18 at the Derby Track Expo Hall.  From 11am-4pm.  Admission if FREE!

Trail Report – : Rhinelander, Wisconsin – February 16, 2018

Reporter:Hodag SnoTrails

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 2-3″ of packed trail base

Date of Report: February 16, 2018

Area Report:

The two-day warm up took a toll on the trails.  The exposed areas are thin and have some snirt.  Once in the woods, the trails are still good.  Riding is still available, but conditions have worsened.  The trails have firmed up and still have a hard, icy base.

Be careful for fellow snowmobilers in the corners and blind spots.

Trail Report – : Hayward / Sawyer County, Wisconsin – February 15, 2018

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 4 to 7 inches base

Date of Report: February 15, 2018

Area Report:

Hello Riders!

As we all eagerly await each weekend for riding and watch the forecasts you know there was a warm up yesterday with some sunshine. Fortunately we have had a good base and freezing temps for the last two months so if you have a ride planned this weekend you most defiantly will want to get out and ride. Because of the day of warmer temps we did lose some base, however the wooded trails and lakes are still VERY GOOD! The base that was lost you will find to be primarily to be on the trails that are out in the open and on or near roads. You will find some scattered bare spots. Some corners will be icy or bare as will some intersections. Many groomers went out before the day of warmer temps to flatten things and many more will continue to go out today and through the weekend. The reports are that those wooded trails are grooming very nicely. The wooded trails are reported to have a base anywhere from 4-7″. And lakes are still VERY GOOD. If you are looking to map out your weekend ride look to the woods and lakes to find your best riding!

The upcoming forecast brings some accumulation of snow on Sunday and Monday, this being a holiday weekend many of you will ride through Sunday so that is great news. Again, you can have a very good ride this weekend and the snow on Sunday will be wonderful to see! So get your gear out and ride!

Surrounding counties also report to be in GOOD condition.

Thank you to all clubs members, volunteers and groomers! Thank you to all of you for choosing Sawyer County as your riding destination!
