Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: On average 3 inch hard base with soft snow on top

Date of Report: January 21, 2018

Area Report:

ALL SNOWMOBILE TRAILS ARE OPEN

Wide variety of conditions on the trails Trails in town are for the most part FAIR .  West FAIR to GOOD.  As you head north, south or east trails get better & better.  GOOD to VERY GOOD.  There are EXCELLENT trails far out east & north in the woods.  Right now it is SNOWING very lightly.  This SNOW will stop 8-9am.  Then more SNOW moving in Sunday night into Monday. Weather guys are calling for potential of 6-9 inches.  Stay tuned.

Plenty of SNOW on the trails it is soft so might find your sled track slipping and the back end of your sled a bit squirrelly.  Have not been out myself the last 3 days as volunteering at the Derby so I’m relying on trustworthy riders that help me out.

As for temperatures it will be in the 30’s for one more day.  Then dropping below the freezing mark for the next week.  With the wet SNOW expected & temperatures drops it will be a grooming dream out there.  Trails should be smoooooth after grooming!

Once again nearly the entire Sno-Eagles Trails system again last night.  A few spurs were not groomed.  Thanks drivers.  Remember give them 2 thumbs up.  Also pull over so they can get by you.  The equipment is not designed to go off trail.  As riders if we go in & get stuck the groomers can pull us out.  Not the same if we had to try to pull them out.

  • Trail 1N logging operation continues in the section between the Town of Washington Town Hall & Eagle Lake.  Clearly marked with signs.
  • Wisconsin River Trail – 10W/13N  & Manske Swamp – 3N are being groomed off & on. There are rough spots but it is frozen tight. All SNOW covered.  Have had no reports of any slush out on either of these trails.  Do not leave the trail to be safe.

CATFISH LAKE LOOP & EAGLE LAKE TRAILS ARE NOW BOTH MARKED AND OFFICIALLY OPEN.  PLEASE STAY BY THE BARRELS TO BE SAFE.  VERY HARD SURFACE.  NO REPORTS OF SURFACE SLUSH AS OF LAST NIGHT.  REMINDER THE CATFISH LAKE LOOP TO LUMPY’S IS NO LONGER A TRAIL.

If you are riding zip on over to the “grade” to check out the 2018 Eagle River Area Fire Department ICE CASTLE!!!!  Located adjacent to the downtown “grade” trail by the Historic Railroad Grade.  The lights installed change colors. Ice benches as part of the Castle let you take photos of your group.  Check out this link Eagle River Ice Castle to check out more photos.  Darn pretty!  Holding up well in the warm up.

Last day for the World Championship Derby.   Full slate of racing starts at 9:00-9:30am.  For more information check out DerbyTrack.com

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: Looking good and more in the forecast

Date of Report: January 20, 2018

Area Report:

The weather has not been as warm as predicted and the sun has stayed behind the clouds. It has made for some excellent warmer weather riding. I was getting tired of riding in negative temps so this is AWESOME! Groomers went out last night and the comments from Sunrise Lodge breakfast customers were 100% positive on the Frosty Club trails. Great job groomers! Snow….from 4 inches to 2 feet are in the forecast along with ideal temps so it looks like Land O Lakes will be the place to be for excellent riding.

Date of Report: January 19, 2018

Area Report:

Took a nice ride with Groomer operator Mike Swatek yesterday, up to Trail 8 & 17 over on 8 & 77 to Iron Belt (toward Hurley). Down trail 15 across Island Lake then down trail 14 to Camp 1. We then went back across the Turtle Flambeau Flowage and out to Murray’s landing road then back to Manitowish Waters. Everything was good to very good! A couple inches of new snow fluff helped all the trails. I would call our trails good overall, a few more inches and I’d be inclined to call them very good. The upcoming forecast looks good as well!
