Trail Report: Cable, Wisconsin – January 27, 2017

Trail Conditions: Poor

Snow Cover: 2″

Date of Report: January 27, 2017

Area Report:

Due to warm temperatures and deteriorating conditions all snowmobile trail grooming in Bayfield County has been suspended some sections of trails have been temporarily closed.

Expect varying trail conditions ranging from fair to poor. Trails are generally rideable with some icy, slushy, and bare spots. With cooler temps forecasted, expect more icy conditions. Trails in open areas/fields have very little to no snow cover. Use caution for exposed rocks, wet areas and icy conditions as trails could deteriorate quickly in a short amount of time.

Please keep in mind that some of these trails are on private land.  Private landowners give us permission to maintain portions of these trails on their property.  If a segment is in poor condition or if riding could result in damage, please refrain from use.  Any damage to the trail system, especially those that exist on private land, will jeopardize our future use privileges and potentially result in permanent trail closures.

Under normal circumstances, winter ATV use is permissible only on snowmobile trails that are also designated as ATV trails.  The warmer temperatures have created wet, sensitive and highly variable trail conditions.  As a result, ATV use has the potential to damage the system and create additional problems when colder temperatures return.  Until further notice, all ATV use is prohibited on the dual-use snowmobile trails.  This includes tracked or wheeled ATVs and UTVs. However, ATV use is still allowed on the Tri-County Corridor and Town Road routes.

Trail Closures:

  • Trail 13 South out of Washburn to the Tri-County Corridor.
  • Trail 4 East and West out of Mason
  • Trail 63 South out of Mason to Grand View
  • Trail 31 South in Barnes

Trail Report: Sayner, Wisconsin – January 27, 2017

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 2 +/- on the trails

Date of Report: January 27, 2017

Area Report:

This is more good news & bad news. The good news is the temperatures dropped and stopped the melting. The bad news is the trails are very icy and the last snow storm missed us to the south. The is some snow in the forecast for over the next 4 days. Anything is better than nothing. I just spoke with some riders that rode up here from Tomahawk. They said the trails were really pretty good – considering.

Conditions – again – hard crusty snow and very icy spots. Corners are very icy. Southern facing hills are very icy. On average our system is fair. There are poor areas, including close to towns, concentrated traffic sections, and where we have logging taking place. Further into the woods is still great. We groomed on Wednesday just before the temps dropped and flattened out the base again.

Continue to watch for logging ahead signs and heed their warnings. Obey the speed limits in those areas. Do not hassle the loggers or get in their way. They have the right to shut the trails down, where they are working, if they choose.

PLEASE! Lets be carefull out there!!!

Trail Report: Crivitz, Wisconsin – January 27, 2017

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 6+ inches

Date of Report: January 27, 2017

Area Report:

Well, Mother Nature has cooled it back down for us, but that last snow only brought us about an inch that mostly melted as it landed.  We still have some base left in most areas and its flat, however, the open areas are in poor condition with many bare spots.  The weather channel is calling for some snow early next week.  If we would just get 3 or 4 inches of good heavy snow we could be in good shape.

Guess we all have to do the snow dance!
